the judge just greenlighted it's ok to vandalise, if you don't like a statue or painting just knock it down or rip it up, history is there to be trodden on if it offends you...

Teapots, on AB, it is purely personal lol.
Enjoy, nj :-)
NJ, I didn’t say I agree with the suffragettes methods - I simply feel their cause was a worthy one. I’ve no idea what cause the people under discussion are ‘fighting’ for.

That’s the second time today you’ve jumped the gun at one of my posts.
And NJ pointed out that the suffragettes had been mindless vandals on a much larger scale.
He did - but we knew that … didn’t we, teapots? Well, I did at least.
Naomi, you've got yourself all muddled. You seem to agree with only those whose cause you understand and agree with. If you haven't sought to understand the cause of the Colstoners then you can't really agree or disagree properly. Do you ever say, "Could you explain yourself a bit more so that I can assess your point of view? At the moment I'm not sure what you are saying, and I'd like some clarification."
You rarely seem to do that, possibly because it might make you have to think things through. I think you know what you think and that's that, whatever points might be put to you.
Pardon?
pixie - // How do you know that, though? These are people fighting against racism. In theory. What makes you think that isn't their aim? //

Because the source of their protest was 'Black Lives Matter' - an organisation quite rightly pitched against the institutional racism of some American police personel.

Because of the aforementioned self-aggrandising stupidity of mobs of people over here, they have hitched their waggon to the protest, and make noise and disturbance in the futile belief that it will change anything whatsoever.

Now I am fine with protest if it is meaningful, directed, clear, and with a chance of achieving the desired result.

This was nothing like that.

This was hysterical mob violence resulting in wanton vandalism of a publicly funded and maintained artefact.

If anyone can give me even a hint as to what will be achieved in terms of combating racism, by pulling down and defacing an inanimate object, then I am absolutely delighted to hear from them.
Getting back to the statue of Karl Marx,Atheist...
Atheist - // If you haven't sought to understand the cause of the Colstoners then you can't really agree or disagree properly. //

They don't have a 'cause'!!!

They think they are attached to the BLM movement by jumping up and down and being all right on from the benefit of their privelidged white backgrounds, and then they morph into a frightening mob of mindless vandals damaging public property.

For what?

To defend their 'cause'?

How?

There is nothing to 'understand' about woke idiots making fools of themselves and being vandals to do it.
Totally, atheist. All my never-ending conversations with naomi, come down to misrepresentation of what I said. Have resolved, to not rise any more.
No more than jumping in front of a racehorse, Andy. It's just sad it still gets to that point.
AH, you share my sentiments on this one. Quite right. They don’t have a ‘cause’.
pixie - // No more than jumping in front of a racehorse, Andy. It's just sad it still gets to that point. //

Are you really comparing a woman prepared to die for the cause she believed in, with a bunch of middle-class dolts playing at being socially aware for the cameras?

Really?????
naomi - // AH, you share my sentiments on this one. Quite right. They don’t have a ‘cause’. //

I do indeed - let's enjoy it while we can, it may not last!!!!!

xx
Haha! You know it won’t! :o)
It's your own view that they are playing for the cameras. Not mine. I still think (and look at some threads posted just today), that racism is actually still a real problem.
//Savile was a criminal.//

Was he? None of the allegations against him were ever tested. They remain just that – allegations (against a dead man).

I almost put 'Savile was a criminal that managed to evade justice' but didn't bother because I don't take much notice of Peter...got the wrong pedant.
Got a bit bored with this thread...how have these morons managed to get a mention with the suffragettes?
Savile wasn't charged. But as 13/15 year old teenagers, he invited both me and my sister, separately to "see his office". Thankfully, my grandad, who volunteered there, and had officially reported him... had already told us to keep away.
