It’s good to see the national press appear to be taking my advice and publishing articles directly from Private Eye.

This article has so many similarities with the words in the PE article (in the current edition) – I wonder whether they will sue for plagiarism; although at least the DM did not claim they had assisted this poor fellow in any way to get justice.

PE has been covering this for some time; Geoff Monks said ‘I want to publically thank Private Eye for following this story over the years. My admiration, debt and gratitude to the magazine is only equalled by my comfort that such an organ exists in our society. What a treasure the Eye is.’

Indeed - I've been following this case on and off for 20 years now - it's in no small way due to the persistence of Private Eye that Mr Monks has finally achieved justice against such vile persecution by so-called Public Servants.

For this case and the others such as Post Office Computer Scandal,
we should be grateful that PE and Ian Hislop exist.
I've been interested in this for some time, Hymie. Those were pubs local to me and where I often met friends.
The link you've posted is different from the one I read earlier.
I hope Jennifer Lawrence and Roger Heath now suffer as much as Dr. Monks has for so many years. The poor man has lost so much of his life and no amount of compensation can give that back.
And as for East Northamptonshire Council...well sweary words are not acceptable on AB.
Private Eye should be compulsory reading for every person over the age of 12.Then we might get sensible responsible government in this country instead of the right wing tory cabal. eton orientated we have suffered for centuries.
Ian Hislop didn't go to Eton, but he went to Ardingly before Oxford Magdalen
Be careful; Naomi might get on the case. I think she considers PE as a pathetic comic.
It should indeed, Moneill and wouldn’t a responsible sensible government be bliss.
wouldn’t a responsible sensible government be bliss.

It would, gness. Unfortunately I don't think that any of us that post on AB will ever see one.

That council bloke should do a stretch for this.
It's not the first time that Eye has been in the forefront, they were talking about Rochdale and Cyril Smith many years ago for example.
Atheist- best leave Naomi to speak for herself unless you're trying a bit of carrot dangling.
When you say Rochdale and Cyril Smith.. are you saying they were talking about the predominantly Muslim Pakistani grooming gangs?
Roy, I think you know full well that they're talking about Cyril Smith's numerous sex offenses against children when he was MP for Rochdale in the 70s and 80s.

Is that really the best you can add to Hymie's post, Deskdiary? All you can come up with?
If so, then you're the one who deserves sympathy. And as for creepy....well that's what folk were saying on here a few days ago about you. Is that what's annoyed you?
yeah and woy was whining in a pommie fashion about being called woy

I read the PE article with wide eyed disbelief.
not so much idsgraceful as incredible
Private Eye has always done great investigative journalism, and looked into murky affairs others were too timid to dare to. They should be particularly proud of their early work on the awful Post Office scandal - I can remember cutting the articles out and slipping them under the glass to my local village postmaster (who, thankfully, was not one of the victims).

Lockerbie is another example of them exposing misinformation and lies.

Then why not just say Cyril Smith...we all know were he came from.
Deskdiary, SD and gness were posting independently on AB for years before getting together, why should that change?
Indeed, Roy. And at five foot nothing and six foot four our hips are hardly joined. ;-)
gness - tell dave Bunty's back on FB next week :)
Oh lord! I’ll get the box of tissues ready for the drooling, GG!
