another activist stirring it up to remove a statue and sow division, i think churchill was a great pm that steered us through the second world war and gave hope to millions, i wont speak about his later career as a politician, but what he did during ww2.

Again, using 21st century sensibilities to condemn people from different times. It's unfair and it's boring. Do you think today's Woke thinking will last until the end of time?

Sometimes the knee has to stay unbent.
What he did to our Polish allies at the end of the war wasn't the act of an honourable man, he put pragmatism ahead of what was right. His actions during the war also involved a great deal of the same pragmatism. I accept that the end result merited statues and other tributes but I don't see him as a heroic figure.

gives you an idea of the depth of ignorance

Poles so disgusted, they always refer to fighting for 'King George'
Peter, I had a Polish partner for 19 years, and I learnt a lot about how their country was carved up to appease the Russians, how Poles were taken to Siberian Labour camps, and how many died there. She wrote a book based on her mother's experiences as a Sibiriak, and her families journey to England as refugees
I think every statue of a human should never have been put up. God knows what they were thinking. But we should know by now.
By all means and erect statues, and beside every one erect a blooming great plaque with a warts and all biography. Let those who read it decide if they are worthy of their respect of admiration

Who to, though, rowan? Everyone?
Anyone who enough people campaign for.and raise Money to fund one.. I am happy for there to be statues to those who made the world a better place, the selfless, the great writers, painters, musicians, campaigners for the rights of those who had none. Let those leaders who died in just wars be remembered on appropriate memorials alongside the men they led reflecting the respect we offer regardless of rank. Dead is dead be you General or Private, they do not need monumental statuary.
Lunatic. Should be ignored.
Technically those tens of thousands of Poles sent to the Siberian camps were slaves and that arose directly from the actions of two leaders appeasing Joe Stalin. I prefer to think that Churchill had very little sway in the discussions but he was involved. But as I said, leave the statue but give accurate information alongside it so it becomes a tool for education.
Obviously, pp, us common folk can't know everything like what you must. But as you keep condemning us for our ignorance immediately after you've just posted it's no wonder you have such a low opinion of us.
The bloke in the link is just another nutcase that won't get a real job.
I doubt many people heard about the betrayal of our Polish allies even at the time, it was lost in the euphoria of victory, and didn't fit the narrative. I was surprised to find PP referencing it, but pleased too. Thanks PP I thought I would be in my own
Nobody was disagreeing with him or saying wha-who dat den, rowan.
I think you'd be surprised what British people know.
better not ask what Aussies thought of him after the first world war. But we can certainly commend his brave struggle against women's suffrage - contrary to natural law and the practice of civilized states ... those women who discharge their duty to the state viz marrying and giving birth to children are adequately represented by their husbands ...
