Since face masks have been shown to be largely useless in preventing the spread of the Omicron variant (and probably scarcely any better with the earlier variants) can we be sure this ridiculous measure will not be considered again in the event of another flare-up?

//Worn properly, good face masks are a viable preventative measure.//

I quite agree. Get an FFP2 (said to capture 94% of airborne particles in both directions) or FFP3 (99%) facemask, wear and treat it correctly and it will protect you as well as everybody else. An added benefit of this is that those who choose to wear them have no need to insist everybody else does. The difficulty is that virtually nobody wears and treats their face coverings properly and those that many people wear are largely useless even if they did. The comparison with trained and disciplined medical staff wearing and using medical grade masks correctly is therefore not valid.

I have no hidden agenda. My opinion (roughly on the lines as above) is open and has been consistent throughout the pandemic. Enforcing the use of face coverings when a piece of thin, damp rag worn for days on end, dropped on the floor or stuffed in a pocket complies with the legislation is simply nonsense. It is a placebo measure and forcing the population to do something that has no benefits is not only absurd but a gross violation of liberties.
You can burn them whenever you want to Judge, it's no skin off my nose.
I don't mind wearing them tbh. Also hides the spot that has appeared on my nose overnight!
I doubt very much anyone will take much notice of what Boris tells us to do, ( that's even if he hangs in there) What Boris don't realize is the damage he's done in respect of law and order regarding any sort of further restrictions. If an PM shows how to be lawless, and try and get away with it, then he's made it all most impossible for those that are left with the job of implementing such.

Why are you wearing a useless face mask when you clearly know the best design to use? Just replace it with the better one.
Crikey no

Er indoors have been very industrious in making several of said items for various people .

Why - some of them have been produced to coordinate with your various outfits .

Now , what are her clients going to do with all their said items ?
What about hamster hammocks?
The masks have got to go ... or voter I.D. legislation is pointless. :))
With you 100% as its pretty m uch what I have been saying the whole time.

If anyone wants to wear one then fine, but dont get all pious and complain and name call when those that have researched and calculated their risk choose not to.

I've never said what, if anything, I've worn.

let us hope that we can burn our useless face masks aka damp rags for good next Thursday
I’ll carry on wearing mine as I quite like it.
And in this cold weather …

But I’m glad they’ll soon no longer be compulsory …
My masks don’t get damp. Am I breathing wrongly?
I doubt you are Cloverjo, nor do mine get damp - but that comment doesn't convey the necessary disdain some want to put forward.

The other description that gives me a wry smile is 'Face nappy'.
Tigger... hamster hammocks ... Love it :-))
I thought I had the hamster franchise early on, mine are more adventurous though.
