First drop in 18 years

Is this indicative of shifting moods ? Is it an age/demographic thing ?
I never use Facebook so cannot really comment
Though I do use Instagram frequently and TikTok very rarely
Do ABers actively shun certain social media platforms ?

never used it myself, never understood why people use it at all, just seems like a cesspit of despair from what I hear. Perhaps some of its users are realising they can live without it.
Remember MySpace and Friends Reunited?

Same stuff, different day.
I used to use it for a local village site but this is now full of ads for local companies rather than news about the village activities so I very rarely log on now. I also know of people who used to use Facebook very regularly but now either don’t use it at all or very rarely.

Not forgetting bebo !

I think you are right though
Nobody in my workplace even mentions Facebook any more
It seems that most stuff is centred around Instagram and Snapchat
They were eventually going to hit peak.
8 Billion people on the planet.
A quarter of them, 2 billion use facebook daily.

More surprising it hasn’t happened earlier.
Auu
Thoritarian countries around the world are blocking social media, so that will also hamper growth.
I’m not in the least bit surprised, it full of ads now
I don't get many ads, and no fake news feeds or anything like that.
I limit friends to people I know or know who they are.
It's my main social media platform. I can rarely be bothered with Twitter except for live event updates (for which it is very good)
I've never bothered with Instagram or Snapchat.
I use it for the local site to find out what's going on. Also to see any posts from far flung relations and good friends by using the search facility. I dont use it regularly though. Oh, and I'm also a member of a private group attached to an association I belong to that helps me cope with a rare medical condition.
They removed 1.7 billion users 6 months ago,so that is going to have an effect.
Monthly users are 2.85 billion. There is probably a billion people like me who only look in a couple of times a year.

So half the planet are users. Unfortunately a small drop in daily users is not at at all significant.
Not that surprised, the majority demographic of FB users these days is well over 40. I don't think young people tend to join anymore, they prefer instagram and snapchat.
My friends list is what it says - friends and relations and my details are hidden as well as the can be.
My son of 38 doesn't subscribe to any popular social media site.
I use Messenger. I haven't a clue about What's up, Instagram, Twitter, etc. Etc, etc
I love facebook although all the privacy settings are in place. Nobody can find me as I don't use my real name and there are no photos of me anywhere on the internet.
Invaluable for keeping up with the extended family.
I have never had the slightest interest in social media, and it took a while for me to accept that this site actually qualifies as such, since it was operating before the notion of 'social media' existed.

It may well be an age thing - I am happy to communicate face to face and by phone, by e-mail for work, but I have no desire at all to spend time typing messages to, and receiving messages from people I don't actually know.

Maybe if I had grown up with it, I might feel differently, but from the outside, it seems to foster an utterly undeserved sense of self-importance for people who clearly do not deserve it, and it also appears to foster the notion that everyone's opinion, no matter how asinine, must be shared with the rest of the planet.
ditto Andy, I don't think of AB as social media all the other stuff does not interest me.
...makes me laugh when people say "I've got N friends on twitface"! etc try calling one of them when you are in the sheet and see how many you have!
Perhaps facebook users are running out of fatuous and vacuous drivel?
I think there is an inexhaustible supply of that QMG!
I pop in most days to see how folks are doing, rarely post but occasionally comment on someone's news.
