I think if it was in any other circumstance Labour would claim it but because David Amess was murdered the people will honour him by electing a tory again.

Neither Labour or the Lib Dems are standing as a respect to Mr Ames
I read the other day (and the link reflects it) that out of respect the main parties were not forwarding candidates so it would appear to be a done deal
Question Author
ah cheers bobbi, didn't know that, very gallant of them.
Given that Labour, LibDems and Greens have not put forward a candidate, coupled with the apparent affection people had for David Amess, the result is surely a foregone conclusion.
......need to type quicker!
Don’t think Labour and the LibDems are fielding acandidate. Certainly haven’t named one so far. They might just not electioneer there.
When Jo Cox was murdered the opposition parties didn’t contest Batley ( Farages UKIP did).
Natural justice is that the seat will/should remain Tory.
Question Author
yes thanks all, I didn't realise the other parties where no fielding a candidate.
While the result is a foregone conclusion, it will be good to see Jayda Fransen lose her deposit.
Labour LibDems and the Greens are not standing out of respect.
Worth noting the Parties with no respect that are standing.

Freedom Alliance
English Democrats
independent
Heritage Party
independent (formerly Britain First)
UKIP
English Constitution Party
Psychedelic Movement
'no respect' or 'legitimately standing in an election'?
Question Author
TBF the bloke from the Psychedelic movement is probably on the steam tugs!
//Worth noting the Parties with no respect that are standing.//

In fairness, not only do they have "no respect", they also have no hope.

similar thing happened in Batley and spen 2016. Politics is a brutal business but it's great to see that they do have a code of ethics.
Dammit Tora, I just went to Wiki to find out if that happened after Jo Cox's murder.

You're right though, it is good to see there are still some ethics in British politics.
Question Author
I know Mozz, you had your "Mercenary Tories" post all ready, just needed to check....
I may have mentioned something Tora, but it was a pleasant surprise to see what happened. Fair play to all the parties who stood aside.
I thought you were being ironic Tora!

This is one by-election I hope the Tories win as they surely will
Doubt very much if the Cons would have stood to one side.
.... had it been the other way...
Of course they would of Gully , respect isn’t just something you think Labour has
