Gas Prices Likely To Rise Even Further Due To The Crisis In Ukraine.
There was talk on the news that energy could cost on average over £3000 a year for the average household by October if the crisis continues. There are many who could not possibly afford this. There would be social unrest I'm sure but what could be done? Only the eco loons would be happy about it but for normal people it would be disastrous. Is it time to abandon the ludicrous dash to net zero and start getting more north sea gas and start franking?

There have been a few on Russian mainstream TV in the leadup to war, which were almost laughable.
eg: a report that a border post on the Russian side of the border had been shelled by Ukraine. It was accompanied by footage of a rather sorry-looking shed in the middle of some trees.
Then there was the poor man who'd lost his leg after being hit by a Russian shell. on close inspection it was clear he had a prosthesis that had been conveniently removed.
My favourite: Ukraine's "battle plans" for attacking the separatist regions, miraculously captured: all in Russian,
All this would be funny were it not so tragic.

Had an email from Shell Energy. Now I understand gas & electric prices must rise due to the increased cost of gas worldwide BUT my combined "standing charges" are going up from around 50p per day to 80p per day.
So even if I use NO gas or leccy I will be subjected to a significant price rise and be paying £25 per month. Not sure how they can justify that!

Standing charges are capped.

Unfortunately the easily accessible oil and gas and coal have been mined and production cost for the rest mean inevitable price rises, and government subsides or reduced household consumption looks like the only way to keep energy bills from spiraling up.
