I think the fact that it’s happening in the 21st century is exactly what makes it so shocking. We always think it can never happen and we’re always wrong.
it's just posturing, his whole approach up to now has been to try and paint NATO and Ukraine as the aggressors and he's the victim just trying to defend his country from the big bad wolf.

There must be more than one high ranking officer with a conscience ?
If not it is quite frightening that a madman can maintain such an iron grip
It is almost unprecedented

In the 21st century modern era ?
Another megalomaniac wielding such power whilst invading neighbouring countries whilst having access to and readying his forces to prepare nuclear weapons ?

Why does everyone feel the need to make a comparison to Hitler or Stalin or Pol Pot ?
Shall we go as far back as Ghengis Khan ?
I am talking about the 21st century
There is currently nobody as megalomaniacal or despotic as Putin with access to nukes
The west are obviously very fearful of him hence their reluctance in the recent past to do anything about Crimea nor assassinating foreign dissidents and using novichok in the uk
The only hope is for some type of coup or a Sadat style assassination
