Donald Trump says if he was in the whitehouse , Putin would not have invaded the Ukraine .

Would that be because they are mates and Putin would have listened to him OR is it because ( as some think ) that Trump is a bit of a wild one and Putin would have feared what Trump's response would have been?

Would the world be a safer place if Trump was in the Whitehouse ? - (He also said that Putins going into the Ukraine was an act of genius )

He also says that he won two elections and will run again in 2024.

The world needs fewer fat imbeciles in my opinion.
I don't want to be rude, but this is an irrelevant piece of attention seeking by the ex-president.

As for his electoral prospects for 2024, which IS worth of discussion, he still leads in the polls of Repulicans but the gap appeasrs to be narrowing, albeit still giving him a significant lead.
Ron deSantis is coming up on the rails.
Putin and Trump aren't "mates".
That is a ridiculous idea.

I think they are not 'mates' but I do think Putin respected Trump in a way he clearly does not respect Biden - Trump and Putin have far more in common, including a worrying disconnection with reality.

Putin may not have invaded, but if Trump regards a possible scenario as a marker for his future campaign, he needs to adjust to reality.

Oh, hang on ...

Indeed
Trump has a toadying admiration for the vain megalomaniac (who would have thought ?) but it is not reciprocated

Mad Vlad admires nobody from ‘the empire of lies’ as he has named the west
"Putin respected Trump"

Well, who knows what Putin thinks, but I'd guess the exact opposite.
Trump's unwitting "trump" card or at least "thing that might be occasionally be useful in a crisis but actually probably wouldn't be" is his unpredictability.

Fine, I know when I'm not wanted...
//Would the world be a safer place if Trump was in the Whitehouse ?//

Yes, I think it would be.

//(He also said that Putins going into the Ukraine was an act of genius )//

Standing alone as a statement that is highly misleading and quite wrong. He said that Putin is smart because he has chosen his moment and Trump has condemned the invasion in no uncertain terms. This is what he said.

//“Yesterday reporters asked me if I thought President Putin is smart. I said of course he’s smart,” he told the crowd at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Florida.
“The problem isn’t Putin is smart — which of course he is smart — it’s that our leaders are dumb,” he said, adding that Nato nations “are not so smart, they are looking the opposite of smart.”
“Under our leadership the world was a peaceful place because America was strong and the perception of our country was perhaps like it had never been before: powerful, cunning and smart. We were a smart country. Now we are a stupid country,” Mr Trump said.
“The Russian attack on Ukraine is appalling, an outrage and an atrocity that should have never been allowed to occur. We are praying for the proud people of Ukraine, God bless them all,” he said.

“When you have a weak president who is not respected by other nations you have a very chaotic world. The world hasn’t been this chaotic since World War Two,” he said.

He added that Mr Putin “is playing Biden like a drum and it’s not a pretty thing to watch.” He speculated that the Russian president made his decision to attack Ukraine “only after watching the pathetic withdrawal from Afghanistan.”//

I think he is spot on. And by the way, they are not 'mates'. That's misleading too.
He also called Putin’s “peacekeeping” forces in the Donbas a “great idea” and “maybe we should do the same with our southern border”.

Like I say, luckily it’s all irrelevant.
“Putin brain v peanut brain” is a showdown I’m glad we were spared
Naomi - I can honestly say I have never come close to agreeing with Donald Trump's view on anything at all - but in this instance, he is absolutely correct.
Apart from the bit condemning the war, his quoted remarks are a disgrace.

Self centred to the end
//“Putin brain v peanut brain” is a showdown I’m glad we were spared //

Are you? Really? Had he been president now I think Putin would have though twice and we would have been spared, ich.

Who knows Naomi

But I do know this: he should be getting behind his commander-in-chief at a time like that.
His comments I quoted above about the Donbas indicates that he had not the slightest clue about the situation.
AH, I think some people's hatred of Trump runs so deep it clouds reality. Ich, the greatest champion on here of Ukraine, is glad we've been 'spared'. With Ukraine now under fierce attack, don’t ask me how that works. I really don’t know. I don't see much 'sparing'.
And I’ll say this lest we fall out too much because I don’t want Trump to be the cause of that.
But Boris Johnson is delivering a fabulous speech at this moment. Sadly he won’t be heard in Russia
I dislike and am suspicious of Trump because of what he says!
Not the other way round.
The day he starts making sense I’ll be his biggest fan
Putin would have done it whoever was in the White House.

I dread to think what would have happened if Trump was still president.
Ich, //he should be getting behind his commander-in-chief at a time like that. //

Why? If you thought he was wrong, you wouldn't. In fact, like all of Trump's critics you wouldn't have got behind him even if you thought he was right! Trump is right. Biden is weak.
As much as it pains me to say it but Trump is correct about weak leaders in the west

I said so at the start of all this
Inaction over Crimea
Meddling in elections in the west
Assassinating dissidents in London and Berlin
Attacking citizens in the uk with weapons grade nerve agents

What did the west do ?
Absolutely nothing
Successive weak western governments who dovetailed each other at varying times has led to this
When we had strong leaders in some we had weak in others and vice versa
This has culminated in the events of the last month

Putin knows the west will do nothing in terms of direct action

I hope the sanctions and measures work very soon but repeat that we need a Russian general to initiate a coup
