Gladstone Park in northwest London could be renamed after Diane Abbott MP.
Schoolchildren as young as five asked for suggestions for public space's name.
They were earlier briefed on the killing of George Floyd and 'systematic racism.
I'm surprised they didn't say peppa pig or Barney the dinosaur park.

A park named after the stupidest person ever to become an MP, and who has achieved the square root of F-all? Jesus wept.

Aaaaah! Easter Sunday. What better way to start the day than
1 A chunk of Easter egg?
2 A good chuckle at the follies of some of my fellow subjects?
I'm gonna have a chunk of egg. Happy Easter to one and all.
(To clarify point 2 above. the follies do not belong to the posters above me on the list, but to the other lost souls, the ones who are pitied or disliked by the posters above me on the list. No trolling here, then).

//...still gets 1000s of ostensibly sane people to vote for her.//
39,972 at the last count (70.3% of the vote).
She has represented Hackney North & Stoke Newington since 1987. It was my childhood constituency and that of my parents until they moved in 1994. It was formed in 1950 and has had only three MPs in that time - all Labour. There was a joke when I lived there that the Labour Party could buy a large block of wood, pin a red rosette to it and it would be elected as the constituency's MP.
Many parts of the area are what is euphemistically termed "deprived" but increasing areas are becoming gentrified. My Mum & Dad sold their house - a three bedroom Victorian terrace - in 1994 for £100k. It sold two years ago for £1.95m. The North London chattering classes seem to love it (though I wouldn't live there for a pension) and it is unlikely to see any colour other than red on its MPs rosette even when Ms Abacus decides to turn it in.

I lived in Stoke Newington for nearly 20 years and Diane Abbott was, and is, a spectacularly poor MP. I remember one occasion during a general election campaign when she hid in the back of a bookshop lest she had to actually expose herself to any questions from, or interaction with her prospective constituents. Quite how she has lasted so long is an enduring mystery.
//Why not. 5 year olds will use the park.//
How many five year olds do you imagine would be aware of who William Ewart Gladstone was and what his claim to fame was? Come to that, how many would have heard of Diane Abbott. The idea of naming places like parks and roads after figures from history is to preserve that history for future generations. If you are simply going to rename everything when all those remembering the particular historical figure has died out you may as well ditch history entirely.
