1. What is happening is appalling. Women, and children, are being raped and killed and being dumped in mass graves.
2. The 'West', while giving some weapons, from time to time, is clearly not responding to the magnitude of the situation.
3. The Russians made a big play of a video of an ICBM being launched. They've had ICMBs since the early 1970s. Pathetic.
4.Moldova is under threat.
5. There are millions displaced and hundreds hiding in basements, without water or food. Thousands of civilians have already been abused and killed.
6. 'We' are constantly told (Boris/Biden) that we shouldn't risk 'escalation'. We should.
The last thing we want is another huge European war.
I and II bankrupted the continent and caused misery for decades.
We should do everything possible to assist Ukraine, but stay out of a war with Russia at all costs.
the Sunday Times, if I skimmed it correctly, said Ukraine had been trying to buy arms from the UK since 2010, but were always rebuffed because the government didn't want to upset Putin. So nothing new about the west sitting on their hands: perhaps if they'd upset Putin then, we wouldn't be where we are now.
None the less, WW3 will do nobody but America any good.
I always feared "that one nutter who might press the button" and I fear that Putin is that nutter. Agreed no one should give in to the bully but if that bully is the one person who could start a war that will very quickly destroy all life on earth ...what to do?
I hold onto hope that the Russian people, realising that Putin has been in office far too long, work out that they are living under a dictatorship. That he has stolen trillions of Rubles from their economy, made Russia poor, murdered a lot of people and as a result of this, Putin and his henchmen will ultimately be deposed and (hopefully) executed and a new democratic Russia re-formed (Dream on?)
// - UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is set to meet Russia's Vladimir Putin in Moscow later today
- Talks come as Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned of the "real" threat of World War Three breaking out
- He had earlier also said there was a "considerable" risk of the conflict escalating to nuclear weapons
- But Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba responds that Lavrov is just trying to "scare the world off supporting Ukraine"
- Russia earlier said it had destroyed six substations powering Ukrainian railways used to transport foreign weapons
- About 15,000 Russian troops have been killed since Russia invaded Ukraine, UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace says //
Yep I do agree with all of the above.
Now Lavrov has started the “world war III” scare tactics.
Probable false flag operation in Tiraspol last night. Tho Russia’s main forces have little prospect of reaching Transnistria I’d have thought.
Are the fires in Russia sabotage? If the SBU hasn’t been putting some of Russia’s 3 million Ukrainians to good use then they’ve not been doing their job properly
On losses the Russians themselves reported 13,414 deaths with 7000 missing before removing the post.
I’d say it’s a lot closer to the Ukrainian 22,000 assessment
In Rubizhne, occupied Donbas, Russian military is kidnapping children as hostages, getting the mothers to take humanitarian aid to Ukrainian positions and then forcing them to reveal their positions or see their children killed
And it’s not really NATO either.
40 countries just met today in Germany ti discuss arming Ukraine: it’s not a Nato meeting and many of the attendees are non NATO.
Good to see Germany stepping up at last though
I haven’t read the previous posts but., it would appear a sleezy old Tory’s musings have preceded the war in Ukraine for headlines.
When I see in the media the mass destruction of the Ukraine cities in rubble I wonder ( should we call putins bluff ?
