Corby; Isn't it a bit strange of you to quote Farage's thoughts when it seems to satisfy your view. I don't remember you being much of a follower of him before. The truth is, strong winds or not, without a crystal ball, he can't predict the future, we shall all have to wait wait & see. I personally think it will be an enormous deterrent - why? because it is already...

Now it is finally law, it can be challenged in the Courts, and will be.
Win-win for the Government.
They beat the challengers and the get to look like they are doing something by removing 40-50 people to Rwanda.
Or the challengers are successful in stopping the scheme, and the Government can blame the lefty lawyers for ruining their plans.

"In 2021, there were no recorded small boat arrivals on the majority of days. At least one small boat crossing occurred on 154 out of 365 days (around 2 in every 5)."
"former Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage told GB News: 'There are some saying Rwanda is working, it's a success because virtually no migrants have come now for the last six or seven days. Believe you me, I know this subject.
'That is nothing to do with the prospect of being shipped off to Rwanda. It's because there has been a persistent, strong, north-easterly wind in the English Channel. When it gets calm again, the boats will continue to come.'"

I personally think it will be an enormous deterrent - why? because it is already working for Denmark at it is not too dissimilar from the Australian approach to the problem.
Britain needs to take a leaf out of the Ozzie book & put out the message, "Be in no doubt, that if you arrive illegally on the shores of the UK, you will go to Rwanda in short order".

Farage was not attributing the lack of dinghies to the consequences of the new legislation.
Since Farage is one of his heroes and anyone stating an opinion contrary to that of TORATORATORA would normally result in the author of that opinion being described as being anti-British or a Fifth Columnist, I wondered if the same would apply to Farage.

// well hopefully they wont have to send anyone gromit, it seems the threat alone is enough to stop the boats. //
// the threat alone is working, much to the chagrin of our resident 5C. I don't know why occasionally they cannot acknowledge that the government has done something right. //
Toe-curlingly embarrassing.
The threat is not working, 254 arrived yesterday, and the Government has NOT done something right.
