Somebody very close to me died during the pandemic, so close that only eight people were allowed at their funeral and I was one of them. Even the deceased's grandchildren were disallowed from the funeral - this was the regime at the time.
There was no wake allowed at all, therefore definitely no group drinking to this person's memory. After the funeral, everybody simply went back to their respective homes. This was around the time of the drinks parties in Downing Street, when wine was being shipped in in suitcases - it later came to light. If I'd known that at the time, I might have been a bit upset about it.
But now, it's not the parties that bother me. It's the lies about the parties! The boozing is just Downing Street culture, under Boris's [absence of] leadership. The lies and deception, though ... they're beyond the pale.
