...would there be any need for food banks?
There's an ass of a Tory MP who thinks there wouldn't be.

His name is Lee Anderson, MP for Ashford.
Just the one Tory ass, Sandy? ;-)

Gness,
He's the one who's put his head above the parapet.
if people would just collaborate on driving woolly mammoths off cliffs and then cutting them up, there'd be no need for food banks at all. I don't know when we all lost these valuable skills.
There would still be a need for food banks - but fewer people might need to use them and those that do might eat better.
We could all do all those things and it got us through the very dark days in the late 60s/70s. Most women could make their own and their kids' clothes.
So, the MP is an idiot - but there is some sense in what he says. A more self-sufficient approach would ease matters.
Problem is that most women (and it would mainly be women doing all these things) now have to spend most of the day at work.
He's a bit of a plonker, Sandy. I'm in a grumpy mood so time perhaps for the Irish Widow's Curse.
Usual sort of guff from one of the arrogant and out of touch ( takes me back to the 80's ).
Indeed, Tony. Mind you if you can't afford to heat your home now you can all gather around the steaming pot of bones and when you've eaten take a ride on the other plonker's free bus if you're old enough.
Anybody got a link...so I can shake my fist at it.
Of course, now pigs heads will suddenly be fashionable and cost a tenner each.
Gness - only if you can afford the gas or electricity to boil the bones in the first place :-(
take a ride on the other plonker's free bus if you're old enough.

He invented the free bus pass ( in London anyway ), don't ya know.

Pastafreak,
He didn't actually mention pigs heads or pots of bones.
Listening to him being interviewed on the radio just now he mentioned meals for 30p.
I remember back in the 40s my dad boiling pigs heads for the dogs. Also trotters and brains. Used to make me feel sick .
There is that too, Toorak. :-(
btw, liked the joke about eyes
Pigs heads are considered a delicacy in many countries including the Uk. .
Perhaps he'd like to demonstrate these 30p meals for families..
And eat one, Patsy.
Would't that be good, Patsy, if he was challenged to do that for a month....manage on the minimum wage with three of four children to look after.
I can recall being so idealistic in my teenage years. The world was going to get better. But now we have the Tories...and far too few decent and honourable people in opposition...... :-(

I'm in despair at what my children and grandchildren are inheriting.
