The DPR/ DNR is a twilight enclave of brutality, corruption and organised crime and home to the notorious Isolatsiya prison, where torture and murder are commonplace. No one in authority there so much as farts without Putin’s say-so, so these sentences will have been handed down by the Kremlin effectively. And by the way, here’s what Putin said today at an exhibition of his hero Peter the Great:
“During the war with Sweden, Peter the Great didn't conquer anything, he took back what had always been ours, even though no one in Europe recognized it as Russia. Now this our fate too, to take back what’s ours”

“If they have Ukraine passports why are we responsible for them?”
As far as I am aware these are the first soldiers in this war to be “tried” and “sentenced” to death. Moreover by an illegal “court”.
This would be an outrage no matter their background. As far as I know they are British (and Moroccan ) passport holders still

One of the men, Sean Pinner, actually lived in Ukraine for several years with his Ukranian wife. He joined the Ukrainian army in 2018 and should definitely be treated as a POW and not as a mercenary.
Same applies to the other lad, Aiden Aslin, who went to live in Ukraine in 2018 and joined the army the same year.
As has been suggested, both will be hopefully offered up in prisoner swaps rather than seeing the sentences carried out.

I’ve faced a gun fwiw :-)
Which in this instance is nothing …
These three are accused of being mercenaries: nonsense of course, but yesterday up to 300 Russian Wagner mercenaries were wiped out in Kadiivka (aka Stakhanov in Soviet nomenclature). The unit was tracked by TikTok. Their base was torched. None survived.

Ichi; It appears that Mad Vlad's plan is to annex the East as a newly incorporated Russian territory, which will be validified by a 'referendum' (ha-ha).

Yes I read that yesterday khandro.
Currently Russia does not control any of those regions in their entirety. Not they they necessarily would stop them.
There’s some doubt as to exactly how many long range rocket systems are being sent to Ukraine. Sounds like not nearly enough. Hopefully Mr Kuleba raises this when he speaks to Liz Truss this morning.
The one positive aspect of this story from Donetsk is that it keeps the war in the headlines, rightly provokes outrage, and puts the spotlight on the rogue nature of these so-called people’s republics.

Bad and sad news ichi ;
'Cases of desertion are growing every week in the Ukrainian army, according to a leaked intelligence report, as up to 200 of its outgunned soldiers are being killed every day in the eastern Donbas region.
Kyiv’s troops are outnumbered 20 to one in artillery and 40 to one in ammunition by the Kremlin’s forces in the area, the leaked Ukrainian intelligence report reveals.
Mykhailo Podolyak, a senior aide to the Ukrainian president, on Thursday said the battle over the war-torn country’s industrial heartlands was so intense that Kyiv is suffering up to 200 military casualties per day. The previous upper limit was given as 100 soldiers.
Russia has managed to gain the upper hand in the Donbas because of its superior long-range weaponry.
Mr Podolyak said Ukraine’s armed forces need donations of hundreds of the most powerful artillery systems to compete with Moscow’s forces, not the handful being sent by Western governments.'

// Khandro, yes, I believe Peter to be smart.//
er no
just recollecting what my daddy (POW) told me about the East in 1945.
faced a gun - no: knives only
Going and fighting someone else's war - fraught.
going and doing medical stuff as a non combattant - very fraught. we still dont know what has happened to the azovstal prisoners or even if they are alive
No-one did this Geneva doo-dah over ISIS, syria and afghan you know. and I thought all the ISIS brit deaths were sort of after the shooting had stopped - - ( taken prisoner and lined up)
