Does Anyone Really Believe That Boris's Forced Departure Will Heal Divisions In The Conservative Government?
Excellent article from Carole Malone writing in the Daily Express.

The Conservative party became split in the 1970s when Heath took us into Europe. The split widened under Thatcher, Major and Cameron. But what they have now is far worse. They have become fragmented and disunited. There are several fault lines and several different camps.
I can see any of the leadership frontrunners being able to heal the rifts.

Naomi, i suspect you describe the article as 'Excellent' simply because it mirrors your own views.
When the dust settles, Johnson may come to realise that had he been less of a stranger to the truth, he may well have seen out a full term (and more) in office.
He gave those who wanted rid of him the ammunition to achieve their joint ambition. He has no-one to blame but himself.

I had also written this earlier today in another (wrong) thread;
'When all the carping and back-stabbing is over & time has passed, when all the lies and distortions are forgotten, I believe Boris Johnson will be seen as being one of the most important, influential P.M.s the United kingdom has had.'

The mistake was appointing Boris in the first place. It should have been obvious that a serial liar would be caught out eventually and then cause mayhem. It saddens and worries me to see how many people think that low morals such as this are unimportant. Like Zacs. I was on the brink of becoming an ex Tory voter (I'd even written to my MP to tell him so); this change of leader might save my vote.
"He was a posh boy but he felt like one of us. He was on our side and he wanted what WE wanted, even though we inhabited different worlds."
The cult of Johnson continues to deceive...
All that Boris Johnson has ever cared about is "big dog" and his followers need to forget the harmful idea that he's ever cared about anything else...
she is right that he had "rock star" appeal... he is famous and quite entertaining on panel shows. But that isn't a good way to choose a PM...
I would have some sympathy if his unsuitability for office was new information, but it wasn't... the tories knew what kind of person he was and handed him power... that was an unforgivably irresponsible thing to do!

". But the Chris Pincher debacle this week was the final straw – he’d denied all knowledge of this man’s sexual misdemeanours when not only had he known about them since 2019, he’d promoted him knowing about them. For his detractors, it was one lie too many. But I still wonder if it’s a lie that
matters one jot to voters. I doubt it."
what she means is that it doesn't matter to her.
