What typically happened would be "X is alleging this and that but it's not so. Here's the story"
So Joe Bloggs minister would go on air with "the story" only to find out it was not so.
The Pincher case was the last straw in this regard.

Many MPs felt betrayed by him not because they have an issue with dishonesty per se (though the public does...) but because they have an issue with being asked to humiliate themselves on air constantly.

how would you feel if your boss frequently asked you to repeat lines on national TV that turned out to be untrue one or two days later? i suspect you wouldn't want to do it anymore... trouble is if you're an MP it is your job to defend the party in public so either you switch sides or change the leadership to one you think you can defend...

obviously this is from the perspective of MPs and ministers rather than the broader issues... which should have dissuaded them from ever choosing Johnson in first place back in 2019.

the downing street line would have come from the prime minister naomi... especially as it concerned whether or not he personally knew about previous allegations against pincher, it could not have come from anyone else...

As far as I'm aware Boris said he was aware of rumours but was unaware of specific allegations. Where you get that he told ministers to lie is anyone's guess. Your insistence is nothing to be proud of.
