Uncaring Authority (in spite of alerts from caring neighbours). How could this happen in a civilised country. Profits before people possibly.

very sad... but why always look for a political angle that is'nt there
where does 'profits before people' come in here... if anything profitt seeking should of led to them chasing up the missing rent not ignoring it

Hmmmm, I wonder why you object to the "political angle".

Don't tell me, I can guess.
Residents reporting it and police making several visits doesn't indicate an uncaring society. As bobbin said if the housing association's only concern was chasing profits, they'd have chased her for the rent.
Her rent was paid, the HA applied for it to be paid directly from her benefits

What is your political angle, Canary?
Housing Associations are usually run as not-for-profit Trusts.
There is no political angle here. Some agencies didn’t do their jobs properly. Other residents did care and reported it several times, but the authorities bungled it.
Peckham has a Labour Council.
A Labour MP.
A Labour Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner.

Are you blaming the Labour Party for this tragedy ?
according to this version, she was paying rent. When she stopped doing so, they applied for it to come out of her benefits but didn't try contacting her to say so, or look into why she'd stopped paying.

So Canary's right to point out that money came before personal concern - two years before, in fact.
There may not be a tragedy here. Not everyone is sociable, and it is possible to be content and happy with your own company, alone but not lonely. Hopefully this lady's death was peaceful.
Landlords are not social workers and their tenants have the right to quiet enjoyment of their home without interference.
We support the same party canary but some on both sides try to crowbar political points in where there not relevant
jno, they probably wrote to her to tell her that they would seek direct payment.
no, she was in trouble, barry.

/// Sheila had a telephone appointment on August 14, 2019 and said she felt "wheezy and sometimes out of breath".

An appointment was made for her to come to the GP the next day but she never attended.

I would describe her as lying in the recovery position used in first aid. They were skeletal remains.///

Regrettably that doesn't sound like a peaceful end.
sorry, barry, that was a response to your post at 13:02.
I sleep in the recovery position, I wouldn't read anything in to that.
not in your doorway, though, barry.
Not very good investigating by the police really.
The rent would not have been paid directly from her benefit.

Third parties such as Housing Authorities and energy providers can apply to have arrears paid off from benefits.

The weekly amount for each deduction is limited to 5% of a single person's entitlement and no more than three deductions can be made each week.
Landlords can apply for direct rent payments https://directpayment.universal-credit.service.gov.uk/
