One for disabled travellers in Europe to keep an eye on.

Conversely ….

//The British government allows the use of French blue badges in disabled parking spaces anywhere in the country. The same is true for badges from any other European Union member state. //

https://www.connexionfrance.com/article/Practical/Your-Questions/Everyday-Life/Can-you-use-a-French-disabled-parking-badge-in-the-UK

How mean. Yet another example of the pettiness - and spitefulness - of the EU.

\\ I wonder what the figures are of disabled US citizens actually driving in France?
Barely scraping double figures?//
It doesn't matter if there is only one person or even one country, it's the principle. To let one non EU country use the blue badge system and refuse another is discriminating and unlawful.
If you read the article, it is not an EU ban, but individual nations are deciding.

16 EU countries will accept blue badges just as before.
The remaining 11 countries have not banned them, they are still deciding.

// all other EU nations accept UK badges. //

Brexiters unfortunately are not known for their accuracy and often use falsehoods such as this to prove their case.

Question Author
I've read the article,. It's there for everyone to read. No falsehoods, gromit. This wouldn't be happening without Brexit. It's just another example of the mean, spiteful mentality of the losers.
“easy solution ,don't allow them to use their blue badges here .”

Who is “they”?
Gromit’s sensible post saves me commenting further …
Naomi,
16 EU countries are accepting the badges same as before brexit. So it is nothing to do with the EU losing (whatever that means?).

The other 11 May also accept them, or some may not. They are UNDECIDED.

File this stupid EU bashing story next to the one about them banning the wrong shaped bananas. It’s cobblers.

It may be too difficult to refuse to accept some blue badges in the UK. Would it apply to privately operated car parks, too? Would a parking attendant have to have a list of countries that were excluded, would cameras automatically recognise which country the badge was issued in? Would it worth chasing fines up after the visitor had returned home?
Question Author
Gromit, // They are UNDECIDED. //

The very fact that they are even considering it should tell you that this is as a result of Brexit. As difficult as that may be for you - or any other Remainer - to acknowledge, and as much as you would like to shove anything that reflects badly upon your heroes under the carpet, that is what it's about.
UNDECIDED may not mean the countries are being deliberately belligerent. It might mean their bureaucracy is just slower than ours :-)
The blue badges were only accepted as the UK was in the EU. You can't leave an organisation and expect to keep the benefits
Yes its a result of Brexit certainly.

But not an example of the pettiness and spitefulness of the EU as claimed
Naomi,
You sound deranged. You have completely lost the plot. Taken in by fake news yet again.
Question Author
It means they are considering it - something that no right thinking government would even dream of doing.
Question Author
Gromit, it is not fake news and stop with the personal attacks.
Does the UK currently accept blue badges issued in any and every country? I believe not every country has the cardboard clock so their disabled wouldn't be able to display the time of arrival if parking on yellow lines
// As difficult as that may be for YOU - or any other Remainer - to acknowledge, and as much as YOU would like to shove anything that reflects badly upon YOUR heroes under the carpet //

Sounds like a personal attack to me.
Question Author
barry, from the second link.

//The British government allows the use of French blue badges in disabled parking spaces anywhere in the country.

The same is true for badges from any other European Union member state.

This means French blue badge holders can normally park in disabled parking spots free of charge and with no restricted hours.

They can also park on yellow lines on roads for up to three hours or in free on-street spaces where there is a time limit for other drivers. Badge holders would not normally be subject to the time limit in this case but there will be exceptions. //
Question Author
gromit, not at all. It's the truth. You do want to shove anything that reflects badly upon the EU under the carpet.
I realise I am wasting my time copying from the article you claim to have read, but clearly have failed to understand.

// Yet another example of the pettiness - and spitefulness - of the EU. //

16 EU countries continue to accept our blue badges. But it is an individual country’s decision, not the EUs.
Question Author
I know. I read it - and I repeat this is as a result of Brexit. Give it up, gromit. It's mean.
naomi, I am aware citizens of the EU can use their blue badges in the UK; I was asking about every country, including those outside the EU.
