wants sanctions against Iran (Sunday Times) because of a man's attack on Rushdie. What on earth is the point? What could it achieve? There are already sanctions against Iran. Utterly absurd.
In 1998 the government of Iran announced that it did not support the killing of Rushdie. That being the case, what exactly would sanctions be designed to achieve?
doing something about Russian assassins being sent to Britain would at least be relevant. Doing something about an assassin in New York sounds totally pointless.

I don't like Sunak or want him as PM, but I'm glad he has spoken out against Iran & its support for this jihadist atrocity.
Sometimes people can do the right thing for dubious, self-serving motives.
I don't like Sunak either, but whether or not his stance here is a self-serving one designed to engender political support, it won’t be popular in some areas of the community and it is, therefore, on a personal level, quite a brave thing to do.
