Is anyone else sick of hearing bad news? If so, we may be in good company. This piece has just been broken by a Russian news agency.

Chechnya's head doctor said a mysterious illness that has affected at least 70 people, most of them schoolchildren, was pseudo-asthmatic syndrome and was a reaction to media reports.

I do, it really gets me down sometimes. Why can't we have more reports of good things, if only to show a balance, surely good things happen every day too?! Feels like we're all doomed sometimes. I watched the Bob Geldof documentaries on Africa late last night, it's a continent very close to my heart and they just left me feeling powerless.

But what's the alternative? Don't watch the news? Don't read the papers, just become one of the blissfully ignorant?

That a good link, as a matter of interest, good news doesn't make money, there was an American magazine or newspaper, that only published good news, it was called 'Good News', the last headline when it went out of business was 'No war anywhere in the world for a week'.

Hi Englishbird, Well we are all doomed but there are one or two questions we should think about -
1. Is it sooner or later ?
2. Should we worry about it or ignore it ?

You know, I watch the news, keep up with science & technology, the environment, the oil supply situation, pollution, global warming, diseases, etc...etc... and yes it can get a bit! worrying, and then I look at other people around me and see that some of them know nothing about anything, they don't read/watch the news, their TV only shows soaps & cartoons etc, they only know their town and their work place and the route in between and which bus to take etc.... and they are really happy.
So who is correct, me to know everything and have plenty to worry about, or them, know nothing worry about nothing.
