Deer are at their highest numbers in 1000 years, and will be culled...so patients in some hospitals will benefit. Surely a good thing...but there are some who believe lentils and beans would be better. Apparently it's a very popular choice in East Lancashire where it's been trialed so far.
Thoughts?

Cooked in wine I like it even less.
I like venison and goat, wild boar too.

Seems a good idea to serve it up at hospitals, nice treat for those that want it.
don't suppose there's any chance of a nice bottle of cabernet merlot to wash it down with?
There is if you go private. ;o)
Thats not very charitable Naomi :-)
Haaaaaaa! You cottoned on. Well done! There's no accounting for weirdos, is there. ;o)
Poor deers being culled because there are too many of them ! There are way too many humans on the planet as well, how about a cull of them starting with paedophiles, child killers and animal abusers and the like - sounds good to me !
If you don't cull them - they eat all the available food and die of starvation and disease.
That and they will attack each other for the food available and then die of horrible wounds.
ok to me - as long as they don't overcook it..... I love wild boar/marcassin too as the Belgies call it - and they know how to cook it.
Uncontrolled they do an awful lot of damage though, Shirley.

//Without careful management of deer numbers, woodlands could become much more ‘uniform’ as deer have no natural predators (in the UK). It is important that deer numbers are monitored as they will do significant (most) damage to woodland in Spring as there’s not much food elsewhere for them. Young trees are particularly at risk, unless they are protected.//

The human race cause an awful lot of damage too ! Just look at the pollution in the oceans. It seems we expect poor animals to be better than us !

When I was in Hospital with the bugs they made me eat a termite pie.
They reckoned the anty bodies would do me good.

No, but we can control it somewhat.

When they damage woodlands they wreck the habitat of other animals, or is that ok so long as Bambi can jump around?
We just can't live like that though, Shirley. I mean, realistically, imagine what would happen if we allowed deer to decimate the countryside.
Think of the poor farmers and the chaos they cause them
The woodlands destroyed killing habitats for your ground scurrying wildlife
The little monkeys ate the buds off our roses one night - we get our own back by eating them.
I think before the UK became heavily populated & "agriculturalised" it was covered in dense woodland and deer didn't seem to make much of an impact on that. Happy days?
Im with Shirley on this and always will be. Leave nature alone to do as it will. It always wins in the end. If it wipes out man so be it.
Basically I don't think human lives are more important than any animal lives. We all have a place and will fight for the survival of our own kind.
Thank you Miss T, I knew you would understand x
