Dartford Protesters

With the protesters causing traffic problems by scaling the Dartford bridge, I can't help wondering why the authorities don't just ignore them and let the traffic flow freely.
At most close off lane 1 in case one of the silly plonkers falls off.

If it was up to me I would get a fire engine to aim hoses at them. Tell them if they don't get down the hoses will be turned on.

BBC news has said the police raised a very high platform (I think they said 180ft) and brought them down.

The authorities (police) have a duty of care towards them. I know that part of the M25 very well. Feel sorry for the motorists as the traffic is bad enough on a good day.
