Paigntnian 19:16. "Tory MPs and Tory Party members are not racist. There may be a few but no more than in other organisations. Labour has, at least in recent years, been antisemitic and provably so." I could riposte - "Labour MPs and Labour Party members are not racist. There may be a few but no more than in other organisations. Tory has, at least in recent years,...

Yes he did. The vote went to the party.... but you knew that.
//He was 20,000 votes behind Truss. //

Gromit, just out of interest where did you get 20,000? Who was voting in the leadership contest between Sunak and Truss?

That was a clip from LBC that happened to be on Twitter. It’s on various media platforms.

There’s a difference between the medium and the source. I’m sure that you’re aware of that.

Twitter here was only the conduit for a serious news programme.

“ just out of interest where did you get 20,000? Who was voting in the leadership contest between Sunak and Truss?”

When Tory voters had to choose between Truss and Sunak, she won by almost 21,000 votes: 57.4% to 42.6%.
So we're back to my earlier post when I said he got almost half the votes. Right .....
I just copied the crap you posted on my thread a fortnight ago.
I’m sure that you’re aware of that.

Again naomi24 I don’t know who you’re talking to. I never disputed his tally.

Spicerack - if you’re going to copy something from an earlier thread, it makes sense to step back and look at context.

Anyone can send a tweet out. To build a discussion around a tweet is very different to building a discussion around a tweet from a trusted news source.

If Sky News tweets video clip a on the controversy around a proposal to increase fracking in the north east, the message is the video clip. If someone tweets their opinion of something - it’s just someone’s opinion.

Twitter as a platform is an untrustworthy news source.

Twitter as a conduit is fine.
I was talking to you, SP.

Why?

I never said anything about the total number of votes Rishi got. My question was whether attitudes explained by the caller were a problem for him.

Gromit challenged you the matter of half the votes.
SP, you said //When Tory voters had to choose between Truss and Sunak, she won by almost 21,000 votes: 57.4% to 42.6%. //

That's what I responded to.

To expand - even if Rishi secured 42% of the votes, if there’s a small section of Tory voters who cannot bring themselves to vote for him because of a perceived “lack of Britishness”, isn’t that a problem?

Not suggesting ALL Tory members hold this view, but if say, 10% do, wouldn’t this constitute a problem?
A similar problem if 10% were opposed to women or young people or old people or northerners or southerners.

That was in response to a conversation you were having with Gromit.

At the start of this thread you said that Rishi got almost half the votes when he ran against Truss.

Gromit responded with “No he didn’t - he was 20,000 votes behind”

You asked Gromit where he got his figures from.

I supplied you with those figures.

I wasn’t saying you were wrong.
I know.
Sunak is a slimy back-stabbing creep. He has more wealth than than the crown so I wonder what's his real agenda is
Rishi was an excellent chancellor, and helped millions when we needed it most- he has energy, charisma and is smart- if he wins the contest, we should unite behind him. The fact he resigned his post, I believe, shows that he was in tune with the public mood, and is an adept politician- nothing more, nothing less.
What do you think his agenda is, Khandro?

"A similar problem if 10% were opposed to women or young people or old people or northerners or southerners."

Absolutely!

If you were a woman fighting in a constituency and you knew that a group of people wouldn't vote for you not based on your gender or ability it wouldn't be something to ignore - it'd be something to challenge.

Luckily for Sunak he was up against an unknown, a bozo and an incompetent.
When you consider that short lists that specifically exclude some people have become acceptable within our society, it's a bit more complex than that, SP. Frankly, anyone who condones that initiative has no business complaining when the people they, themselves, favour are excluded elsewhere.

I honestly don't have a clue who you're talking to now.

You seem to have introduced a topic that has only a tangential relationship with this thread.
