the notion that the gazillionaire Sunak is a socialist points to the gap between JRM's imagination and the real world. It also points to the dangers of indulging in ludicrous exaggeration when you're on campaign. If you lose you're going to do a lot of backing down.

JRM had previously said he wouldn't serve in a Sunak cabinet (“I believe his behaviour towards Boris Johnson, his disloyalty means that I could not possibly support him.")

Poor chap must have undergone a long night of the soul before overthrowing his previous high principles and making himself available. Still, one must be flexible these days.
