If I was Putin that is what I would attempt to do. Although "try again" to do what, I wonder? It is hard to see how Russia's military would be in any fit state to relaunch an offensive as early as March.
And you can be sure the AFU (armed forces of Uraine) will not agree to any "winter break". They are well equipped to cope with winter, when actually the frozen terrain - assuming global warming won't have seen to that - despite what some appear to think, will help the progress of military vehicles. If the Russians are using stolen housing then they won't themselves all necessarily be freezing in trenches.
Russian losses lately have been staggering: 5000 dead in a week, 2700 in one 4-day period, and I am even not sure that that includes the hapless ex-hopsital cases and prisoners drafted into the Wagner mercenary forces. Probably not.
It seems they've been using newly mobilised, poorly trained recruits to draw enemy fire, to reveal their positions. A tactic otherwise known as providing cannon fodder. You'd think at some point somethin, somewhere, must give, with that level of attrition, not to mention bereavement.
The latest Iranian drone attack was 0% successful: all shot down, tho apparently more, plus long range missiles are on the way. But all these are used on civilian targets it would seem.
