It would seem that Russians have completely abandoned the city of Kherson, the only regional capital they ever managed to occupy.
Not that that means comfort and joy by any means.
God knows what they have left behind.
It does look as tho they are trying to build a defensive line across the front from Luhansk to southern Kherson oblast, using mobilised personnel, and possibly billeting troops in houses forcibly evacuated. I suspect the "attack" phase of the so-called "special military operation" is about to end and they will attempt to hunker down behind this new "border"
Only time will tell.

If I was Putin that is what I would attempt to do. Although "try again" to do what, I wonder? It is hard to see how Russia's military would be in any fit state to relaunch an offensive as early as March.
And you can be sure the AFU (armed forces of Uraine) will not agree to any "winter break". They are well equipped to cope with winter, when actually the frozen terrain - assuming global warming won't have seen to that - despite what some appear to think, will help the progress of military vehicles. If the Russians are using stolen housing then they won't themselves all necessarily be freezing in trenches.
Russian losses lately have been staggering: 5000 dead in a week, 2700 in one 4-day period, and I am even not sure that that includes the hapless ex-hopsital cases and prisoners drafted into the Wagner mercenary forces. Probably not.
It seems they've been using newly mobilised, poorly trained recruits to draw enemy fire, to reveal their positions. A tactic otherwise known as providing cannon fodder. You'd think at some point somethin, somewhere, must give, with that level of attrition, not to mention bereavement.
The latest Iranian drone attack was 0% successful: all shot down, tho apparently more, plus long range missiles are on the way. But all these are used on civilian targets it would seem.

Some suspect a trap, tho I am not sure I buy the idea that elite Russian troops are going to leap out from behind buildings and go "surprise!" I believe their 36th airborne division (what passes for an elite fighting force) was still in the city, but all the evidence of what has been happening there for several weeks now suggests it is what it seems, or an elaborate and sophisticared subterfuge of which I doubt they are capable.

Just to say that while the city of Kherson has more or less been abandoned there are still troops there. Many if not all in civilian clothes and some locals do seem to think it might be some sort of trap.
From the outside it’s hard to see exactly what. The obvious would be to lure Ukrainian forces into overstretching themselves but those forces are in any case some distance away from the city proper - likewise from Nova Kakhkovka upriver. Presumably still meeting resistance.
In Melitopol in neighbouring Zaporizhzhya, a Partisan hotspot, possibly up to 300 Russians were killed in a bomb attack.

I'd like to add to the 'Thank you Ich' postings. You are my 'go to' for reliable updates and if you mention somewhere I don't know, I take the trouble to chase it up.
I also think that the rapid approach of Winter has something to do with the Russian position, they'll be hoping Ukraine also 'sits it out' and gives them time to regroup i.m.o..

Putin's whole plan is based on a poor distorted view of Russian history of which there seems to me to be as many as there are historians. He is poorly educated and is consumed by a misplaced feeling of resentement; an instinctive urge for 'revenge' as he searches for a way to rationalize his own weakness.
