They now decided to have a bank holiday in May so we can all celebrate Charlie boy having a crown stuffed with jewels placed on his head, and then while he is whisked back to one of the many palaces that we provide for him and the rest of his sponging family of no hopers, we are allowed to stand there waving dopey little flags at him while he gives us a condescending grin and a wave from the back of a Bentley that we bought for him, along with all the range rovers etc in case he fancies a change. Meanwhile people are struggling to eat and keep warm, food bank's, real genuine poverty that i never thought I would live to see, absolutely heartbreaking, I could go on but surely I am not alone in being disgusted by the irony of all this and it must be time now to relegate the whole lot of them to history book's and not throw another penny towards this horrendous family.

I'm none too sure what purpose a head of state serves in this country. The role is almost entirely ceremonial and may extend to opening supermarkets. For a long time Britain has had a monarch manifestly more experienced and sensible than many of the heads of government she worked with, but this is no longer so. If Charles decided to hide away for decades, as Victoria did, what difference would it make to the country or anyone it it?

I think you are grossly underestimating the power that the monarch actually has both in influencing politicians and being the final arbiter in matters regarding the constitution. And all from someone who may be totally unsuited for such a role.

I do feel that an apolitical Head of State is a good idea, but to decide it on privilege and hereditary is another matter.

One idea which appeals to me is for electoral registration to include a "Would you be prepared to act as Head of State (and accept relevant training etc.)" question, then pick one from the yes category at random. Serving time 2 years say.

A skeleton of an idea which needs fleshing out, but how about it folks?

One should immediately sling any "yes" responses into the bin stamped "unsuitable".

We have a government, it not easy to see what separate 'head of state' position adds. If other heads of state want to talk shop they can ask to see the PM. If it's a jolly visit, they can either avoid meeting government, or someone can be appointed to make them feel welcome. Meanwhile the rest of the political system needs updating so no individual ever needs to overrule at any time in order to protect the public.

i support monarchy by lottery of the adult population. that way we keep our head of state and our crowny institutions and our national anthem but no one family is granted privilege and deference by cringeing serfs. It’s the perfect compromise.

i think the term limit could be limited to a number of years equal to the roll of a ten-sided die…. rolled with great ceremony by the archbishop of canterbury before an audience in order to symbolise the will of god…

then we could have still have coronations every few years… even follow it with a referendum on each departing monarch - if two thirds of voters want to execute the outgoing monarch then they are beheaded in public

i guarantee you that would bring in the tourists! Even more than the current royal family do! the UK could become a giant theme park dedicated to monarchy.
