I read in the news that a young man was stabbed to death in the Jericho area of Oxford last night.
I know there are some council estates in that city, would the Jericho area be considered a risky area?

Wasn't it Jericho where one of Morse's murders took place?
No...Jericho is an area a few minutes walk from the city centre and has quite a "villagey" feel - eateries, etc.
A somewhat jaundiced view of public housing schemes up there. ^
Not particularly risky Sandy - it has become a desirable place to live recently. It is an area near the canal and an art house cinema. My grandson is having his wedding reception in a very nice wine bar type place in Dec. The back of the old Radcliffe Infirmary which is now research depts is also there. Mainly terraced houses and I think a strong sense of community. I used to go there a lot but my poor mobility has stopped me going there so much.

I do remember Jericho being mentioned in one of the Morse shows, yes.
I guess with so many thugs carrying knives nowhere is safe now.
'The Dead of Jericho' is the title of the book and the Morse episode

Douglas9401,
I can't imagine members of the Bullington Club spilling out onto the street after a night on the champagne and settling an argument with knives.
But I take your point.
Are the walls of Jericho still standing?
There were 31 incidents of violent and/or sexual offences in Jericho during September

Compared to 3 in the more genteel Woodstock

There are council estates in every city, probably hived off off to housing associations by now. What has that got to with it?
It's a great tragedy , but in 2022 Britain you can be killed ANYWHERE
Jericho is definitely not a council estate, or anything like it.
I wouldn't say that Jericho is a risky area despite it being been a few years since I lived there myself.
I'm surprised to see that stat - no I wouldn't have called it an area of high crime - more a thespian/liberal arts area, a hint of bohemian life to it.
