//…as Ray Davies sang"girls will be boys and boys will be girls".// You should study the rest of the lyrics, ynnaf: “Well, I'm not the world's most masculine man But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man And so is Lola” And thereby hangs the rub. It’s one thing for a man to declare himself a woman. He could call himself a dog but he won’t be allowed to enter Crufts. But...

Yes of course they should be blocked, they have bigger problems to address rather than this cobras.
Yes they should be blocked. They clearly conflict with UK law (specifically the Equalities Act) and UK law must take precedence.

As above, Scotland has far more pressing matters to attend to which are within the remit of the Scottish Government. These exclude the gender nonsense and the equally nonsensical independence issue.
Yes, they pose a danger to women.
Indeed there is that as well, Zacs. The problem with using that as an argument is that I don't think it will float. The Scottish administration has heard all the pros and cons and decided their idea is a good one.
'The Scottish administration has heard all the pros and cons and decided their idea is a good one.'

Which only serves to further highlight the eccentricity of the Scottish administration. I sometimes think they do things just to be contrary to Westminster.
I too think they do things just to be contrary to Westminster. Yes, they should be blocked. A stupidly dangerous initiative.

I posed the OP in as neutral a way as I could, may I now vent my spleen?
I think it is outrageous even as a proposal let alone propose it for new legislation.
Not only should it be blocked, but the Scottish Assembly should be ridiculed for suggesting it.
What is on Sturgeon's mind that she feels the need to support the absurdity that declaring as either male or female is a matter purely of choice & for that choice to become enshrined in law?
Is there something behind this we do not know about?

As a father of two daughters this would be yet another reason to fear for their safety within a society which seems to be going off the rails.
Clearly dangerous- I am not up-to date with this, but I believe this is the first time Westminster have gone with a legal overrule of Scotland.
Should be blocked and the whole devolved debacle disbanded.
makes you wonder if its just to rubup westmister, oh look we are working for the people with a basic right and we get stopped because we are not independent, ask scot what they really think, wont do that will they, drink your milk, mother sturgeon snp says so, snp been on the whiskey to long.

Could it be that "Nicola" is actually Nick; we should be told.

The trouble is, youngmaf, that once the Genie is out of the bottle, it is extremely hard to force it back in. If anybody proposed that the ridiculous devolution nonsense was to be abandoned they would be accused of "curtailing democracy" - even though, until 20 years ago, the Scots enjoyed no such democracy.

Only one person managed something significant in this respect and that was Lady Thatcher when she abolished the Greater London Council in 1986. That only lasted 16 years and in 2000 the gullible London electorate voted in favour of an "elected mayor". What they didn't recognise (because it was not emphasised) was that they would also get the Greater London Assembly to go with it - the GLC by any other name. They thought they would get a Rudi Giuliani. Instead they got Ken Livingstone.

Never mind. The good people of North East England are next in line to be presented with an elected Mayor:

https://news.sky.com/story/north-east-of-england-could-get-directly-elected-mayor-under-new-1-4bn-devolution-deal-12775509

This has been praised as a "significant step" by local politicians. I'm sure it has. There will be plenty of troughs - in sizes to accommodate all snouts - and plenty of palms to be greased to "ease the paperwork."

Strangely, nobody seems to have considered asking the electorate whether they want to finance another load of bottom feeders. Perhaps that's because in 2004 they were asked and almost 80% of those who voted rejected the idea. You're only allowed to come up with the "wrong" answer once.
^^^ 14 years. Perhaps Rishi's idea that everybody studies maths until age 18 is not such a bad idea! :-)
and what a great leader thatcher was, i think so..as they say cut through the red tape and got *** done, remember all the unions were blitzed and rinsed sadly after the damage was done by them.
I don't agree, nj. As, I am sure you are aware- AB (with lots of affection), tends to be 10/15 years behind the actual world. This was fully predicted well over 20 years ago, and kept as quiet as possible. I genuinely still believe, as I have always said, that the tide has already turned. We just wait a little now.
//I don't agree, nj.//

Sorry, pixie, I'm not sure what you disagree with.
NJ, "that once the Genie is out of the bottle, it is extremely hard to force it back in" - to ymf. In this case, it isn't- it was let out long ago, but is now suffocating the more publicity it gets. A very slow process, but I suspect, a permanent one.

Oh yes, it was definitely let out long ago, pixie. It was let out when Mr Blair introduced his ridiculous devolution plan. But I don't believe devolution is ever likely to be reversed.
Sorry, nj, I was referring to the OP- crossed wires, I think.
