Not wearing a seatbelt is not a crime though, unless hysteria takes over.
//Not wearing a seatbelt is not a crime though, unless hysteria takes over.//

But it is. The offence is normally dealt with by way of a fixed penalty but if that remain unpaid it is prosecuted in the criminal courts.

Hysteria doesn't enter into it.
>>> Not wearing a seatbelt is not a crime though

It's a criminal offence under the provisions of the Road Traffic Act 1988, as amended by the Motor Vehicles (Wearing of Seat Belts) Regulations 1993.
Not wearing seatbelt, criminal offence (crime) or endorsable offence?

How pathetic and trivial, for gods sake, does it really matter? I really couldn't give a fig compared to whats going on in the world.
Well said Dave!

Our Prime Minister committing a criminal act; not of interest?

This is not the first time Sunak has been fined for breaking the law – such behaviour shows a total disregard for the law of the land, and an arrogance that he is above such laws.
'Our Prime Minister committing a criminal act; not of interest?'

Not good, but criminal act? some on here have stated it is a crime to not wear a seatbelt and if so Mr Sunak must now have a criminal conviction for non wearing of seatbelt, not correct I am afraid.
What kind of idiot puts pictures of herself breaking the speed limit on instagram,oh yes i remember now it was Emily Thornberry, but her husband is a high court judge so she will not suffer any sleepless nights waiting for the knock on the door.
Clearly a recidivist. Can't even blame Boris this time. Bring back Liz Truss.
//Not wearing seatbelt, criminal offence (crime) or endorsable offence?//

It is a criminal offence (as explained by me and Buenchico earlier). It does not carry an endorsement and no points can be imposed. However, somewhat perversely some might think, Magistrates can order a driving disqualification for any offence (this is not restricted to motoring offences). So in theory a driver (or even a passenger) could be disqualified from driving for a seat belt offence. Whilst the power does exist, it is most unlikely to be exercised. Parliament decided that the offence was not liable to endorsement and normally and it would normally be seen as unjust to impose a disqualification. When dealt with in court the offence carries a maximum fine of £500.
NJ, if it (not wearing a seatbelt) is a criminal offence does now Mr Sunak, now have a criminal record?
I endorse dave50 @ 21:03
Thanks B, so does that mean Mr Sunak, now has a criminal conviction ?
