banks cant generally as a rule "arrange" the same sorts of "favours" that loans between chums can....when people in these kinds of circles lend each other money, apart from paying back the dosh theres the other favours that may or may not have been discussed at the club. Normally the lendor will be getting a very good deal of one sort or another down the line...

They do get loans from banks but, just like everyone else (irrespective of whether they're getting a loan from a bank or another source), they can sometimes be required to provide a guarantor, so that the lender can be sure of getting their money back.

The actual source of Bojo's loan hasn't been made public. Richard Sharp was approached as a possible guarantor, not as a lender, and he then introduced Bojo to someone else who could become the guarantor.
Banks aren't stupid.
On the contrary, banks are stupid….remember 2008?

Is he just terrible with money ?
Or a homosexual that tried his best to keep his desires hidden?
Chris, 0.44, the source has been made known. He’s said to be Canadian businessman,
Sam Blyth, Boris’s distant cousin.
Anyone lending him money would know that eventually as ex PM he could make shedloads. Publish memoirs and go on the US lecture circuit.
Why should he go to a bank, when his cousin could lend it him?

Because the interest rates are higher than borrowing from a friend which could even be interest free, I know of many such cases.
