Just heard on Radio 2 that Sunak has sacked Zahawi. More to follow, no doubt.

As for the Chairman, the chairman isnt the leader, the role just as some responsibilities. "The position is not subject to election, as it is given by the party leader.[3]"

It must be deeply embarrassing that your Party has delivered four dud leaders in a row. They can’t even run their own affairs orderly and honestly, no wonder the country is in such a mess.
Pundits are already talking of the next leader, but surely they must have figured out by now that it is the whole organisation that is dysfunctional, and they are rapidly running out of short planks to front the cabal.

//Where’s NJ when Zahawi needs someone to congratulate him on minimising has tax bill?//
NJ is here.
As bobbinwales helpfully and correctly points out, all of my musings regarding the duty of everybody to reduce their tax bill to the absolute minimum are always accompanied by “…required under the law” (or something similar). If Mr Zahawi has acted beyond the tax laws then he deserves all he gets (including the sack). I don’t know whether he has or not, but it seems odd that he has paid a considerable sum to HMRC when his “minor error” was pointed out. I also find it odd that a person who clearly has access to expert advice, should so easily fall foul of the law by way of an “innocent mistake” (like I would if, say, I had left one of my dividend payments off my return).
But as I said, I don’t know all the facts.

Gromit: "It must be deeply embarrassing that your Party has delivered four dud leaders in a row. " - well half right, May not up to much, bit of Brino walla. Boris best leader since TGL and probably in the top 5 in history of all PMs. Truss? agree disaster, Sunak? give the man a chance. Any way if we are so terrible how come your beloved terrorist loving anti British, anti Semitic communists in the labour party still can't make a dent? next year is election year 2024, half a century since real Labour won a GE, will that change?
// We now know that HMRC’s probe into Mr Zahawi’s taxes began more than a year earlier than previously thought, and that he repeatedly hid the details of his dispute and the penalty he paid to resolve it from civil servants and three successive prime ministers. //
But he keeps the party whip and is still sitting in the Commons as a Conservative MP, as if he did nothing wrong.

Zahawi seems to have been sailing close to wind for quite some time, having lived for 10 years in breach of a planning restriction:
