They say they now believe she has fallen into the river. They do not know why, or what happened but believe it was a tragic accident. She was seen just 10 mins before her phone was found on the bench, and so there is just a 10 min window unaccounted for. It was also confirmed that it was common for her to take her dogs harness off and then let it run around, and that morning Willow was seen with her running around without the harness on, so she took it off herself. They are continuing to search but that is what they believe - that she is in the river.Very tragic : (

It often happens that a dog falls into a river or sea and the owner goes into rescue it but drowns and the dog survives. The RNLI rescue animals to stop the owner trying a rescue attempt. No one has mentioned if the dog was wet or dry.

Also, all the press comments that she may have gone into the water to retrieve the ball - well a tennis ball would float, so it should have been seen by now if that was the case.

Winter time, fully dressed ... I doubt she'd have gone into the water to retrieve a ball.

She might have gone to the bank and slipped in; perhaps the ball was close to the edge and she thought she could reach it.

I don't know why there is so much focus on falling in the river as if that was the only possibility. I wouldn't have thought there were many rivers in the UK where someone could drown and the body still not be found a week later.

I suppose it depends on circumstances, anneasquith. People deciding to hop it and leaving no clue to their whereabouts is one thing - people disappearing without trace in these circumstances something else entirely.

Going to retrive the ball from the river makes sense, because her mobile phone being left on the bench. Had she been just walking along the bank and slipped, the phone would have gone in with her.
