I never heard of a stabbing when I was a teenager and ironically most of us carried knives. Is it happening more or being reported more?

Kids are fearless today since laws were brought in that they had rights and they couldn't be challenged on anything and least of all given a smack if that smack was deserved. They know their 'rights' now and milk it for all it's worth, they are scared of no-one and have no respect for authority. And of course they bring their own brats up the same way, and on it goes. I can't see an end to it frankly. Of course I know we still have some decent ones out there, but the bad element seems to be getting stronger.
Might be a bit of each, mainly reporting more so, I believe. Violent teens never really got reported, especially in the West end of London. Teddy boys use to cut each other, other Teddy boys just enjoyed rock and roll and dressing up. The Kray twins normalized knifing, but we didn't get to hear about it to much unless you saw it in the papers.
Has violent crime changed? I knew a couple of youngsters that were badly glassed in the face in pubs years ago (separate incidents), around 15 years ago I knew someone who was victim of a nasty acid attack.
Then there was the phase of youths using Kung Fu nunchucks to batter people with.
I would support mandatory prison sentences for anyone carrying a weapon, even first time offenders

The unfortunate Dr Mina Suchak anaesthestised ALL the stab wounds to the chest in Birmingham 1980 ( three ) and then came round and told us how she did it
They come in pretty flat, and only 'wake up ' and need a GA of any sort when the chest has been opened and the pericardium cleared of blood.
( surgeon does X stitch of heart wound and goes backwards ( sews up patient). In the same year, there was a photo of all the patients ( standing the next day) received in Soweto in ONE night - 20.

rates of violence tend to oscillate over time.... it was very high in Victorian times especially in cities and probably a bit lower in the 30 years after world war 2... i am not entirely sure how our present era compares but it is certainly the case that hate crimes including violent ones against transgender people have increased significantly in the past few years (although the police are saying there is no evidence yet that this was the reason Brianna Ghey was murdered)
Nicebloke, I once witnessed a Teddy Boy attack on old man. I was only a few yards from it. I was only 8 years old at the time. I was playing on Livesey St in Manchester, opposite a pub called The Apollo. I heard a large scream, then a stool came crashing through the window. An old man came running out of the pub towards me, being chased by a Teddy Boy. The man truned round, and as he did so, the TB jumped up at him and hit him the chest with both knees. The man fell backwards and banged his head on the floor. He was knocked out, with blood pouring from the back of his head. The TB then kicked him in the face several times, and when he'd done that, he slashed him on both cheeks with a razor, then ran off laughing. I ran away screaming and thought the man had been murdered. I never heard any more about it, from that day to this and often wonder how things turned out for that man. It's something that has haunted me all my life.
I dont ever remember nearly every school kid having a pocket knife ttt. For one, in the 50/60s you couldnt afford one. If 1 kid did have such, everyone would crowd round to have a look. But i do remember my dad having one and showing me, it was if i remember a swiss army knife. The problem you have now, is knifes are very available and affordable. The latter is the problem!!
