Sir Alan Duncan..Says..The Conservative Party is on the edge of Oblivion.
The Brexit Purists need to appreciate that the Cons are on their way to oblivion and any further internal division will push them over the edge.
....I like Sir Alan. Hope he is correct.

Will it be a debate, or the vile threats and mudslinging that the Brexit vote degenerated into?
I imagine it will be debates - if they ever actually get around to it.
“Personally I welcome debates of that nature. They don't come before time. What's your objection to that? “

my objection is that i know what a “culture war” is and to call it a “debate” is extremely misleading…

I did not say Iain Anderson had no agenda… i said that his comments about the party’s strategy are one reason i believe they will pivot to attacking minorities to distract from their failures
Why do you see debating a subject that is causing concern and therefore sorely needs to be debated as attacking anyone?
We don't have debates any more, we have slanging matches. It's Culture War, not Culture Debate. A debate involves putting forward arguments (not the squabbly things, but what philosophers use) and supporting them with clearly explained reasoning and evidence. Try that in the House of Commons or on social media, and you'll be met with howls of insult.
Atheist, this is abut the government discussing these issues. Who are you talking about?
I'm not sure that's fair Atheist about the HOC.
If all one ever watched was PMQ then people might draw that conclusion, but that isn't normal HOC business.
if you understand what a culture war is as a political strategy and approve of it then I don't really know what else to say... they certainly do not involve "debate" as you put it
"Why do you see debating a subject that is causing concern and therefore sorely needs to be debated as attacking anyone?"

because that is how culture wars work... it's effectively a polite euphemism for doing just that
I agree that there is lots of HOC business which is conducted in a reasonable way. But there is also lots of shouty stuff from all sides.
And lots of politicos indulging in bad tweets.
Untitled, that doesn’t answer my question. Do you not think that which causes concern should be discussed?
Obviously i think topics of concern should be discussed.. that isn't what someone setting out to fight a culture war is doing naomi
Wars are never one sided, untitled.
No, Naomi; wars are when one side attacks another and then the other retaliates.
Exactly, atheist. The perceived aggressor, though, is a matter of opinion.
Naomi; Yes, as we see with Russia and Ukraine. There are people who actually believe that Ukraine invaded Russia.
Doubtless.
wars are also not “debates” naomi… a culture warrior does not “debate”, they attack… and they normally pick on people who are much weaker than them..

i think i have explained my reasons for believing why the tories are set to do this… don’t see any reason to circle the drain further
I think you’re wrong about the reason, untitled.
