//Anyone arriving in the UK on a small boat will be prevented from claiming asylum, under new laws expected to be announced next week.

Ministers will have a duty to "detain and swiftly remove" anyone who comes to the UK through that route, said Home Secretary Suella Braverman.

Currently, asylum seekers have the right to remain in the country to have their case heard. Under new legislation, those who arrive in small boats will be prevented from claiming asylum in the UK, removed to Rwanda or a "safe third country" and banned from returning permanently.//

Heard it all before. Talk is cheap. Actually getting stuff sorted seems a bit much for our politicians.

Perhaps when they tell us how they intend to get around the 'human rights' issues that have stymied attempts up to now, we'll take them seriously. Until then it's just more bluster.
Sadly, nothing will be done, as ever. It's all talk.
Oh that's easy Naomi. They are simply going to tell the ECHR that they will obey their every command. That should do it.
If he did manage to achieve it, the labour party would have no answer to it because they are trapped in their own ideology of everyone should be welcome.
The difficulty is making it water tight legally so the TROBers can't challenge it. Good luck but I think it will get wrecked like the others.
All this talk is just white noise.

Heard it all before but nothing happens
Forget about Rwanda, it is never going to happen.

Sadly you were taken in by a publicity stunt. It was a diversion rather than a solution. The original budget would have removed 50 illegal immigrants, when we are getting 30,000 a year.

I didn’t hear Sunak announce more funds to ramp up removals, so I reckon it is hot air before the local elections, where the Tories will get another trouncing.
I don’t understand the reasoning re the size of boats ?
I think it will happen. I dont think Sunak is the sort to put his head on the block without doing his homework first.
//removed to Rwanda or a "safe third country//

And which 'safe third country ' might that be ?
He's turning into just another here today, gone tomorrow politician, just more expensively dressed than some others.

"The original budget would have removed 50 illegal immigrants, when we are getting 30,000 a year."

Yeah, but would it still be 30k if the economic migrants knew we were serious about moving them to Rwanda ? Perfectly good tactic if we left the ECHR and defined *sensible* HR.
i feel sorry for Sunak his job is like swimming uphill in mud and being shot at with spears either side of him
You forgot the crocodiles chasing him.

Nobody forced him to go for the job.
//I feel sorry for Sunak his job is like swimming uphill in mud and being shot at with spears either side of him//

Why? - nobody forced the job on him
I feel sorry for the UK. Especially NI at the moment.
ok sorry for Sunak as it is him at the moment who is priminister but anyone who's in that job goes for what i texted no one can win with all the hatred who is in that post

They announced the Rwanda nonsese before last year’s local elections.
They said it would deter people from coming here. Then double the number came lat year from the previous year.
It isn’t working !!!

^that’s because the government was prevented from sending any. You can safely bet that if everyone arriving on those boats was instantly packed off to Rwanda the boats would instantly stop coming.
