Excellent news. The only tragedy is that it should be necessary to devise a rule that prevents men participating in women's sport.
Well that's just ruined the only chance I had :-(
Thank goodness for that. It should never have been necessary though.

Only applies to those that went through puberty as a male.
I don't know enough to know if that is fair
As you said up top, Barry - it's a start & good news imo.
Good news indeed.

It's the influx of male hormones at puberty which makes the real difference in muscle mass etc..

Would any adult male athlete be so consumed to be regarded as top of the field that he would change gender just to have a chance of winning against women?

I've never really been competitive in anything so I can't understand the drive athletes have to win
Common sense prevails for a change.
After reading this about a winning transgender cyclist in the US, it's definitely move towards common sense...

Pasta ---- Er?! I like what you say? wrong link I think. :)
Good.
We must bear in mind that this decision only applies to elite women's sport. It does not apply to the thousands of amateur women athletes up and down the land who compete at club level. They may still find themselves facing men who have decided they are women.
Question Author
Hopefully though this might give amateur associations the 'permission' to follow suit
Yes I was thinking that, barry. The problem is that such is the vociferous nature of the trans lobby, that many clubs may feel intimidated by it.
Jourdain @ 20:24....???? How did that happen? I wondered why I saw that page when I was closing windows.
Here's the correct link...I hope!

welcome news, sad it's necessary.
Ultimately there will have to be three categories;
1)People born male
2)People born female
3)Anyone that doesn't want to be in 1 or 2 for whatever reason.
Yes, tomus, a trans person I know competes in 'unstated gender' races in cycling already. it is the sensible way forwards.
