Thanks TCL. Well-researched.

So it looks like it's not really a tradition that needs to be adhered to and indeed, Ms Truss' neck is made of the very finest, glossy, scratch-free brass.
only 4 on her list according to the BBC - but still...
Would you want to be given an award for backing a failure?
Those dismissed well paid politicians do not deserve a special reward for such short service. There are many people throughout the land who give many years of voluntary service to local or national charities yet never expect anything other than the goodwill and thanks of their colleagues.
"Honours". Yeah right ...
The practice was legal and dated back several decades partly for new money to discreetly acquire titles; Lloyd George made the practice more systematic and more brazen, charging £10,000 for a knighthood, £30,000 for baronetcy, and £50,000 upwards for a peerage.

(later banned by act of parliament) after Maundy Gregory scandal - the chief purveyor

these prices ( which I kinda knew) are astronomical

I know The Old Goat ( lloyd Geroge silly !) had asked Maundy Gregory - - how much for an OBE
( the answer - £500, I thought far too high)
kt - now £1m.
£300 a day is cheap. You can rent Kwarteng and Hancock for £10,000 a day (in their dreams)

If we are adhering to the tradition - and its suitability in a modern democracy is something for another debate - then Ms Truss is entitled to nominate a list if she so chooses.

The criteria is based on having served as PM, not how good a job was made of it, or how long the individual held the post, just being PM triggers the right to nominate, and on that basis, Ms Truss is entitled to nominate.
So legally she can do it, but morally.......... she has no morals! However she got elected beats me! She's far from popular in her constituency in Norfolk. Dreadful woman.

AH

But it’s not a tradition that has been stuck to. This wouldn’t even be a precedent!
No, she should not, and neither should anyone else. It is corruption on steroids, and by and large ,it does not benefit the general public. But I am repeating myself, must be going doolally, time for seat in the lords perhaps, with all the other doolallies
