'Beware the Greeks, even when bringing gifts'. I've probably misremembered the exact quote - it's about the Trojan horse. They probably said "Lessons will be learned".
Beware the Greeks especially when they come bearing gifts.

Timmy O'Danaos and Donna Ferentes :-)
A dangerous couple

A picture has appeared on twitter of the woman who handed Tatarsky the statuette: a photoshopped version of the (male) head of the Ukrainian SBU. However I'd imagine this was probably an inside job.
But who knows ...

Meanwhile in Khmelnitsky in western Ukraine, an Orthodox priest made the mistake of beating a Ukrainian soldier.
A crowd descended on the monastery, kicked out the all the priests and handed the keys of the place over to the Ukrainian church.
how does a priest beat a soldier?
it's like saying an antelope savaged a lion.
shaolin monks?
Question Author
According to local reports, the soldier came to the church and asked (presumably the worshippers): "How many more people must die before you stop going to the Moscow Patriarchate?".
The military officer was detained by law enforcement officers for and act of "petty hooliganism", but in the film captured on mobile phone one the priests can be seen kicking the soldier and the latter being dragged away.
The soldier does appear drunk, perhaps, but this incident would have touched a raw nerve with people who regard many of the priests in the Russian Orthodox church of being little more than agents of the Kremlin. There are now two rival branches of the Ukrainian church: the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (anyone who mentions Monty Python will be asked to leave :-) )
There's currently a stand off in the Kyiv Perchersk Lavra monastery complex related to rival branches of the Orthodox church in Ukraine, Link follows for anyone brave or patient enough to delve in. There'll be a quiz later :-)
thankyou for the additional info

More on the St Petersburg killing:
The woman who presented the statue to Tatarsky was told to leave it at the entrance in case it was a bomb, but Tatarsky ordered them to let her come forward with it.
Bizarre.
Thank you Impatiens - I was sure I was wrong. Nice to know the correct quote. :)
Difficult to know what to think. If it had been Putin fair enough, but as it is, the war continues.

“Nice to know the correct quote. :)”

which you both translated perfectly!

This killing brats all the hallmarks of an FSB operation. The Kremlin doesn’t take kindly to criticism of its “special military operation”. The hawks who do it are deemed more dangerous and are therefore more likely to be eliminated
and beware Dona - Donna Summers, Doner Kebab etc

Timete Danaos dona ferentes
( dat ancient forrin)
oops sorry I hadnt realised the Donna joke had already been cracked

“Timeo Danaos ET … “ if we are being pedantic
The key word there being the last one.
So not actually wholly appropriate here perhaps. More a case of “just another day in Ruzzia” to adapt a PP phrase …
The Russians have blamed a previously unheard-of political faction and for good measure they’ve also blamed Ukraine too
et sic ( that's Latin for yes - et) ( verum )
The intellects hang a lot on the liddle word -
Bear in mind the Gks are a dishonest lot and even worse when bearing gifts ( quicquid est - whatever they are - note singular for plural)

thanks for the posts Itch - informative as ever. I only put in Latin as I know it drives Naomi bat-crazy. Bad puppy!
Boom Boom or бум-бум as the locals/Ukrainies would say,,,,,
