Do we really NEED 24 hour news from the BBC. I would argue that it consists of almost endless repetition & going back to a couple of news progs a day - morning & evening would be quite enough.
Of my TV viewing probably less than 10% is of BBC programmes which I could easily forgo. But I would STILL have to pay for it!

If you read the Mail article to the last paragraph, you get
A BBC spokesperson said: ‘This isn’t about any new job cuts - it’s a standard HR exercise relating to savings we’ve announced previously - and it’s not targeting any individuals; we have to send it to everyone who’s at the same grade. We’re looking for expressions of interest in redundancy, not offering it, and it’s not the case that any or everyone who came forward would be accepted.’

You do have to love these reports:
They get everyone steamed up before the punchline with the proper news at the end. By which time most people have probably stopped reading, including me in fairness, so thanks.
Aside form that, re some of the comments above, it is common practice for reporters to actually get out and report. Sitting in a studio fulminating is what the likes of GBNews is good at.

The reason why TV presenters are highly paid is for the sane reason that popular actors, musicians and top sports stars are highly paid.
It’s because they’re popular, and people tune in to see them.
This is why Lineker, Bruce, Attenborough, Daly, Winkleman etc are paid commensurate to the size of audience they attract.
Happens on commercial channels too (cf. Ant and Dec, Willoughby, Holden)

//Apparently the commercial channel BT Sport are desperate to sign Lineker for next season’ on a several million £ contract.
Do they not know that 3 or 4 ABers won’t watch ?//
We can cancel BT sport, and him with it. Right now contributing to his outrageous salary is compulsory. In case you hadn't noticed, the beep beep see is calling protesters against ULEZ, members of the far right. Haha bogeyman alert. Boo.
