I didn't enter the marathon because I felt it my duty to redress the ethnic balance.
I may have found the answer in a Water Aid commercial on the telly.
No need for those long treks any more.
'No, OG, I believe theirs is 'If you can't beat them, what's the point in truncheons?'

Wow Douglas,
Is that true? It wasn't in my day. However I retired in 1997. Just shows the intelligence of the hierarchy of today's modern Police Force. Must of been some sad, saddo numb nuts to dream up that inane Guff. Eh?

Apropos
As this thread is about the London Marathon I have a photo of me and a colleague discussing the route with Chris Brazier before the first London marathon. Our motorcycle unit ( Special Escort Group)topped and tailed the race and have done so ever since. Our motto was 'We Lead and Others Follow'. Just saying. No controversy who entered in those days and no one cared. It used to be a fun day for all regardless of race, colour or creed

Beautifully put my friend.
there's no controversy now about who enters, the organisers just want more of them and believe making a greater appeal to a more diverse population would help, which seems logical. Nobody has alleged racism.
