I would suggest that if the government need and want the health unions on side, and they do, then bringing the law to bear in them is not in the best interests of getting them there.

A confrontational position will only lead to one thing - confrontation, or as in this case, more confrontation with heels being dug in even further.

Because it is the unions who negotiate with the government and sort out a pay deal that they think their members would accept, and then offer it to them.

Without the coopoeration of the unions, the government will simply lurch from strike to strike, pretty much as they are doing now.

I don't think that will be the case at all and it's not what Conservative Govts have done in the past.

Unison and, very recently, the RCM have accepted the pay offers.

The RCN was told that the strike was partially unlawful and yet they chose to go ahead. It was inevitable they would lose the case, the judge having said as much. The union now has legal costs to pay. Not a great decision by Ms Cullen.

Instead he has said the more usual - the Law is the Law so obey it.

Not defended by the Nurses, so I presume the lawyers said this is a loser.

Bear in mind Fender62 that neither the police or armed forces have unions to encourage insurrection or civil disobedience or whatever.
The police are allowed a Federation which is pretty toothless in any case.
