Think this were done to death on here last week by gulliver though so doubt you get much response

This is gerry-mandering and naughty Jacob should know that there are no votes in changing a system so that they get more.
Far more likely to the corruption on an industrial scale observed in the Brum mayoral election. ( the one that had the electoral court ( electoral whaaaa?) - sit for the first time since 1867. My gaaad, said the Judge - which funny hat do I wear?).
callaghan did this in 1979 ( delayed redrawing constituencies to avoid MP loss) and got slated for it

No one turning up to vote needs to prove to government who they are. The system used for years worked just fine. There is no evidence of abuse. If there was any concern at all they'd be clamping down on multiple postal votes. It seems part of the attempt to have an id card equivalent by the back door, which goes hand in hand with the effective database merging that clearly is going on in the background. All about monitoring and controlling citizens. They will have succeeded before most realise what they were supporting all that time.
//it was an attempt at voter suppression//
Nonsense. If it stops people voting it stops them across the board - not just for one party.
//the evidence for voter fraud on any significant scale in this country is non existent//
It's not acceptable on any scale - but Tower Hamlets is an example.

I can't understand why anyone would object to efforts to prevent fraud - and I'm doubtful that this is the reason for Conservatives failing to turn out in recent local elections. I rarely miss voting but I didn't bother this time and I suspect that applied to others also. I'll vote in the next General Election - and so, I suspect will others - so watch that space.

So what caused Blair to lose 1150 seats in 1999? In fact they lost seats in local elections in 11 out of their 13 years in power. Mid term low turn out. Lets see what happens in 2024 shall we 9 point lead is nowhere near enough. Sir Beer will need a world record swing to win in 2024, better than Blair in 1997 and he had a 20 point lead.
I don't care what the government claims... these measures were obviously not intended to target fraud they were intended to make it harder for their political opponents to vote... i am pleased that they did not succeed but nobody should have been prevented from casting a legitimate vote at all
naomi... most of the methods used in tower hamlets would not be impacted by voter ID laws
