If the sub is not found in time will the operation continue to find the sub and the remains of those on board or will it be scaled down, I recall a caver trapped in a cave who couldn't be rescued and his body was left

Charges should be considered now. They may or may not recover the vessel eventually but those people are dead.
A debris field has been found.
I heard that too Douglas, so maybe their deaths have not been the drawn-out horror we have been imagining, let's hope so.

Their deaths are tragic, but a quicker end has to be better for all concerned.
I too hope it was quick. The alternative has been almost impossible to contemplate.
If it imploded it will have been quick. I hope so. Now further actions can be considered.
What a terrible thing to have happened, I pray for a miracle but sadly I fear the worst also
enough people queuing up to say the submersible was a death trap
The trouble is, folk trust those who seem to be the professionals. That is sometimes misplaced trust.
Sometimes, though equally people often cut corners above the recommendations of experts. I am not sure what applies here, though the more I hear the more it tends towards people just not taking safety, and safety experts, seriously; and it seems, sadly, that five people have paid with their lives.
Latest reports are that 2 separate parts of the craft have been found and identified
A former passenger has said that he had to sign a waiver that 'repeatedly emphasised the possibility of death'.

Terrible news for the family and fruends of those involved. If there is any comfort to be taken, the end would have been very quick.

According to this updated article in the DM, they would have died instantly as a result of an implosion on Sunday.

seems the last show he helped write after the experience was homer trapped in a submarine
So sad, I hope they died instantly ( as has been suggested ).
Maybe the Titanic should be left alone ?
I think it's time we left the Titanic undisturbed as the graveyard that it is. We've located it and filmed it which should be enough. No one needs to go down there.
I find it appalling that it can't be opened from inside.

Let me hypothesise a possible scenario. The sub's communication system suffers a catastrophic failure so the experienced Captain follows procedure and brings the vessel to the surface but in very rough seas it is virtually invisible, and with comms breakdown no "homing" can take place. So the occupants die of lack of oxygen before being located and unbolted.

This may even be what happened and the sub was then run down unseen by a large vessel which broke it up.

It is essential IMHO that in emergency it should be possible to escape from the inside.
