Although a dedicated anti-Capital punishment believer, I sometimes think perhaps it is appropriate.

This guy should be burn at the stake, but I suppose that reduces me to his level.

But just imagine what his victims must have suffered, especially the innocent children.

In the same way that people say a war suddenly fills the churches, I think we would all become advocates of Capital Punishment when we are personally involved, as I have explained.

But that is a personal circumstance which does not exist, as I have also explained, so I do not live by that circumstance.

I believe Capital Punishment is barbaric, and does not serve any meaningful purpose except to garner votes for politicians by pandering to the worst of our base instincts as a society.

Do I think it should be re-introduced for the satisfaction and 'closure', to use that popular and pointless psychobabble phrase, for people I don't know? No I do not.

Because I cannot adjust the morals I live by simply to fall in line with every murder that occurs, that would be impossible.

Would I want Capital Punishment re-introduced? No, never.

Would I want Capital Punishment for the murder of someone I loved? In a heartbeat.

But that dichotomy is what makes me human, and I am happy to live with it.

I read that to be capital punishment is fine by me if it involves my family but as for others who are victims of a similar aborration can just hang if you excuse the pun. Holy and pious when it happens to others but happy when it is personal.I suppose that applies to all those who state their anti Capital punishment views. I will leave it at that as my curiosity is satisfied. Good day.

Put him in prison where the other prisoners will sort him out? What a joke. Our prisons are rapidly filling up with murderers who have mostly committed similar crimes. The world is going mad. Give them lethal injections and remove the evil s*** from society. Justice for the victims should be our main concern.

As an atheist, I would dispute the 'holy and pious' bit, but otherwise, that's about the size of it.

We all have to form our moral code into something we can live with, and that is different for different people.

I can be accused of being a hypocrite, and being irrational, and I will live with that, but as I pointed out in my original explanation, being irrational and being a hypocrite, is part of being human, as I see it.

As I said, we differ completely in our view, and so be it.

At the risk of kicking the whole debate off again - killing someone for killing someone can be seen as 'justice', not least by the family involved.

But from my uninvolved position, I can see it only as revenge, and that is not in my view, a facet that adds to the civilisation of society moving forward, which is probably why it's no longer an option.

Obviosuly - if you don;t want to exchange views and reasons, that's fine.

In my long tenure on AB, I have on occasions exchanged views with people, and come away with a changed view on something discussed, sometimes the complete opposite of what I originally thought.

I guess that may happen to others as well.

But I think on a subject as sensitive and controversial as Capital Punishment, most people form their views early, and are not likely to change them - at least in the debating arena, personal circumstances may cause a re-think, as I discussed previously.
