A Childish Diplomatic Snub By The Eu
Just shows how are departure from the EC has hurt them. As we have left their Bloc they think they can ride rough shod over British Sovereign Territory. What a crass, childish snub. The Falkland Islanders wish to remain a UK territory so why don't the EU butt out and continue eating sour grapes.

It is implying tacit support for the envious nation and their ludicrous claims, against the wishes of those residing there.
I have no doubt that in the event of an official fuss being made the intend was always to deny deliberate wrongdoing, as inadvertent thoughtlessness could be used as a plausible excuse; but no one is that thick and convinced. It was clearly a thinly veiled insult in the hope that the UK would get cheesed off. Which is why this thread often mentions childishness, with good reason.

// “Regarding the question of sovereignty over the Islas Malvinas/Falkland Islands, the European Union took note of Celac’s historical position based on the importance of dialogue and respect for international law in the peaceful solution of disputes.” //
So they did refer to the islands as Falklands. Yep just EU bashing for the fun of it.

Retro; I haven't adopted france as my country, it doesn't work like that. I own a house over here and I can spend 90 days a year here without the need for a visa. I like the weather, the food and wine, the countryside, the language and the local pepple we have become frineds with. Why are you so grumpy and rude to a perfect stranger who doesn't share all your opinions?
//I thought from what I read of the original link that the only issue was what the islands were called. Is that really so important?//
Yes it is.
There has been an ongoing dispute over the sovereignty of the islands for some time. We need not go into that dispute except to say that the Falkland Islands are a British Overseas Territory. This is recognised by the United Nations (despite insisting, whenever they are mentioned, in placing “Malvinas” in brackets after “Falklands”). The important thing is that Argentina, who claim the Falklands as their territory, refer to the islands by “Malvinas”. Even more important is that in 1982 they invaded the islands, attempting to take them by force and 255 UK personnel lost their lives in the islands’ defence. Calling the islands “Malvinas” gives credibility to Argentina’s disputed claim to the islands and tends to justify that invasion.
