You see what I have a problem with is how would you know it is 'Ma, say' unless you already know it is Marseilles? Who on earth would say 'Ma, say' for whatever reason?

Hi lankeela...if you want to encourage your mother to talk you could say Mum Talk, Ma talk or Ma speak .... or Ma Say....

Or do it the other way round . I cant think of any Euro city's starting with Mum so its most likely Ma... first that springs to mind is Marseilles then work back to Ma say to check it fits theclue

Bednobs, I've got used to these 'sounds like' clues in crosswords, that don't necessarily work for the whole country, and just shrug them off most of the time. Half of my English friends go off to have a bath, the others have a barth...
