No one seems to be blaming the Conservative s in Wales, Scotland, or NI ... why? Another product that was introduced into our building techniques, that originated in Europe(where they have the same problem). This stuff was originally developed to meet the massive rebuilding requirements after WW2 and the acute lack of dwellings. Cheap and cheerful always...

The reason why this is being laid at the feet of this particular government is because (according to the former head of the DofE), the government were warned (when Sunak was Chancellor of the Exchequer) that “300 to 400” schools needed to be rebuilt each year to counter the problem. Funding was given for 50 because the priority was to allocate cash to build new free schools.
If this is proven then it looks bad for the government.

Anyone else remember why the concrete and glass buildings were literally thrown up in the '60s ?The education authorities and the do-gooders at that time decided that the stone built, solid Victorian school buildings were not suitable for the 60s children. The windows were too high and the children could not see out of them. The desks were deemed to be restrictive . Children should have the freedom to roam around the classrooms. The old substantial stone school buildings were in many towns demolished and the
new schools were literally thrown up . Glass windows from floor to ceiling . Tables instead of desks in many schools.
Now we are reaping the outcome of all that cheap concrete .

This stuff was originally developed to meet the massive rebuilding requirements after WW2 and the acute lack of dwellings. Cheap and cheerful always turns into expensive misery! I remember my old man shaking his head at the sight of aerated concrete breeze blocks and saying "never do a good job and there is plenty of work for everyone".
Togo; it depends what you do with the aerated breeze blocks. I built an extension (30 years ago) using 6" blocks for the walls because they were accepted under the then building regs as acceptable in structural and thermal insulation terms. They are still standing and doing a good job, apart from the thermal insulation aspect, which is easily addressed by adding insulation.
Too many people apologising inappropriately these days. I thought that the British already had a reputation for forever saying sorry, but this woke phenomena has made everything unbelievably worse. I'm sorry, but I hope it will prove a passing fad, and those supporting it will look back and think how daft they'd been when they were younger.
