The NHS holds some of the richest set of population-wide health data in the world and the Government wants to bring all that data together in a centralised database. But to do that they’re looking to award a near £500 million contract to a big for profit tech giant.

Well who else is going to do it. Volunteers? Are they saying private companies cant be trusted to do this sort of project?

If I had my way, everyone's complete medical records would be in the public domain and fully searchable on the internet. 

Similarly, full details of everyone's bank accounts (except, of course, passwords for making payments or withdrawals) should be available to everyone.

Yes I do agree with this. Hopefully whoever gets my data might have a few GPs or hospital doctors (who are not currently on strike) on their books and may be able to put me in touch with them should I need it.

There's not much point in the NHS having my data as I am unlikely to be able to access its services in a timely enough fashion to help with any problems I might have.

um, I think they might have done that.

If I give my NHS no  which of course I carry around with me, to any surgery they can access my records

including the kool stuff like I have to have irradiated blood

The records are usually anonymised to be honest - easy if computerised - nightmare for paper records
