in an ideal world let's say the palestinians were given there own state, i don't think they are capable of running one, seems like a lot of religious radicals always carry on killing there own people, not devout enough, having western customs music clothes fashion etc elicits a death sentence, i guess islam is very dominant there, unlike say jordan turkey etc.

I am a little confused about Hammas and the innocents of Gaza.

I am given to understand that Hamas were actually elected to become the ruling government of Palestine ! Who actually elected them? Was it the innocent Palestinians who are on the Gaza strip.? From what I read the innocent Palistinians are continually used as human shields when Israel is attacked by Hamas. Hamas set up their command posts and communications centres in heavily populated buildings like schools, hospitals etc. They appear to use the innocent Palestinians as propaganda martyrs to their cause. A very cowardly act by terrorists not a lawful democratic government n'est pas.The innocents have been told by the Israeli government to get out as they know their intentions of a ground invasion will cause civilian casualtys .Hamas have told them to stay in what is left of their dwellings. Why? Do Hamas care about Palestinians ? I don't think so. Again they are to be used as propaganda martyrs. How come Hamas do not build bomb shelters for their innocents? Most private Israeli dwellings do have them as well as public shelters. When Israel enters Gaza with their ground forces and eliminates Hamas for good surely the innocents would be very grateful for eliminating their real oppressors.I hope for peace in that area but it now has to be on Israel's terms and the Palestinians will be better off for it imo.

When I was at sniper school back in the day my instructor said that if I didn't want to make myself an easy target I should try winding my neck in now and then. x

Good B.A..

I had an upsetting moment earlier this evening when my facebook page suddenly came up with a cartoon.

It showed an Israeli hitting with a stick a wasp's nest (covered in a Palestinian flag) hanging from a branch.  The wasps came down in a frenzied attack.  Last picture was the sobbing Israeli pointing at the nest before CNN cameras and blaming the wasps.

Not nice.  I'm trying to discover how to report it.

It's a complicated situation, but nothing, nothing (to my mind anhyway) excuses the actions of Hamas on Saturday.  They don't care aboput the Palestinians and must have calculated a violent Israeli response.

I'm not an automatic supporter of Israel, not an unblemished record, but this puts me  firmly on their side for now.

It all goes back to the Treaty of Versailles, OH and I decided.  Clemenceau was intractable about punishing the Germans, which led to the Weimar Republic and starvation there, which led to Hitler being elected and we know where that led. So the world decided to give Israel its homeland back......... and here we are.

"Hamas were actually elected to become the ruling government of Palestine ! Who actually elected them? Was it the innocent Palestinians who are on the Gaza strip.?"

hamas won a majority of seats (with the backing of israel) in legislative elections in gaza - not palestine as a whole - in 2006... shortly after that hamas launched a coup against their rivals and separated from the rest of the palestinian authority who are the legitimate rulers of gaza... israel supported this for years because they wished to divide the palestinian leadership

50% of people in gaza are aged under 14 and another 20% aged 15-24... that's 70% of gazans who were either children when hamas took power or were not born at all. they are not responsible.

"The innocents have been told by the Israeli government to get out as they know their intentions of a ground invasion will cause civilian casualtys ."

they tell gazans to leave but do not actually allow them to do so. gazans cannot leave gaza - their only hope is to move further south into the strip but that area is also being attacked. they cannot move to safety

you are correct to say that hamas does not care about palestinians

I haven't checked your figures but what possesses you to even think like that, let alone post it?  The same could be said for a lot of world situations.   It's a cop out.

Maybe its just me Naomi, but i get the feeling that maybe one or two of the ABers on this site would be pro-Palestinian terrorist and anti-semitic,while claiming not to be.

ynna, I've no doubt that most would be horrified by the suggestion that they're supporting terrorism but as I asked at 15:27 Fri, doesn't supporting  Palestine in these circumstances equate to support for what's happening?   That question remains unanswered.

"doesn't supporting  Palestine in these circumstances equate to support for what's happening?"

support for palestine does not equate to support for hamas or its murderous actions no. unlike yourself i am am not comfortable with children being killed in any circumstances or for any reason.

"what possesses you to even think like that, let alone post it?"

which part of my post do you find objectionable?

facts about gaza's population by age are available here:

https://www.indexmundi.com/gaza_strip/demographics_profile.html

the vast majority of gazans were not adults or were not born when hamas came to power.

@09.20.Not supportive of terrorism,Naomi, but apologists for terrorism.Especially up here in Scotland.

Untitled, //unlike yourself i am am not comfortable with children being killed in any circumstances or for any reason.//

If you want to discuss this please try to do it in a civil manner.  That is not only uncivil, it is a lie, and I resent it.

both sides of this conflict commit acts of terrorism. you can't say you hate terrorism when one group does it and "reluctantly" accept it when another side does it... either you believe terrorism is never acceptable or you believe its acceptable in the right conditions. personally i think terrorism is always unequivocally wrong no matter the cause.

fair enough naomi... are you happy to say that it is wrong for the IDF to kill children?

Untitled, And idealism doesn't work in the real world.   Your argument is fatuous.

do you think it is wrong or not?

Untitled, in warfare people suffer.  That is a fact of life and something we have no option but to accept.  However, that is not the equivalent of purposefully shooting hundreds of people dead in cold blood, taking and killing hostages, raping, brutally slaughtering, or chopping the heads off babies or burning them alive.  Your thinking is awry.

Question Author

Untitled you are trying to correlate collateral damage with deliberate acts of torture and murder.

It is not "warfare" to seal noncombatants in a place and then launch airstrikes on them naomi... this is illegal under the geneva convention for that very reason

I don't think it is complicated to say whether or not it is acceptable to kill children... whether it is done by airstrike or by gun/knife is irrelevant

i stand by what i said

"Chopping the heads of babies...". Really?

I'm surprised that there are no reports of Palestinian monsters throwing babies into the air and spearing them with their bayonets as they fell.
